trackday noise levels

Ten of us did a track day at Bedford(101dB static limit) last weekend. Quite a few were 99 or 100 dB static even with clamp on silencers, and were warned that we could struggle with the 87.5 drive by limit. It was one strike and you are out, too.
Nobody failed, and there was a pretty loud Tuscan amongst our number with a driver whose motto was "if sliding, add more power".
So get your car static tested - most tracks will do that for you if you ring up and ask nicely - and if reasonably close to 100dB static using their equipment, you should be ok on the 95 dB drive by. Most tracks won't let you run if over 105dB static anyway. You can get clamp on additional silencers.

Thanks QBee - trouble is there's no correlation between static and drive-by tests - too many variable in the latter. Not for my Wedge anyway, I know it's too loud for the 95 db limit at Zolder, but as I know where the meters are, it's not a problem usually. So was Bedford actually an 87.5 db driveby limit as well as the static?

I tried to spot the microphones and would make two comments - they weren't at max revs places, and the track was soaking most of the day, which meant that almost all drivers weren't using top revs past them.However, they do enforce those limits, and do remember that the decibel scale is logarithmic, not linear, so 95 dB is a LOT louder than 87.5, not just 9.7435% louder. Yes I do own a calculator, but it is about the same age as your wedge..... bought it in 1986, used it for work every day ever since (I am an accountant).
Number 7 is talking about my Griff had a static test done and it was 106db, don,t really want to get trackday silencers as I only intend doing the odd trackday and the the limit at Zolder is 95db and don,t fancy getting black flagged as its a long way to go, had that a few years ago in my Cerb

My Cerbera is 105dB static with the trackcans fitted, I have not yet had a problem with a drive by of 92dB which a lot of circuits seem to use.
95dB is double the sound pressure of of 92dB so you should be fine. With mine it is the pops and crackles that the old girl makes when testingf static that make it so loud, when on the track being driven properly the pops and crakles are much reduced.
