Filmed whilst entering the meeting and during.

Has Smolenski brought some ex-KGB buddies with him then?

My opinion of Mr Smolenski has just gone up immesurably! I do hope it's true.

So Bertie's a bit of a Thatcher fan
and Marki's a Swedish Social democrat .

I, of course, am a well balanced Liberal who is also a Trade Unionist and this kind of Neanderthal management style is certainly not balanced by shiny uniforms and a new canteen. Workers have rights of union representation and partnership working is the way ahead.
More disappointment from Moleskins, but Russians always were fans of the old hag (mainly because she wasn't their PM!)

Workers have the right, but the Unions very often neglect the responsibilities that go with them.

It may be possible that Smolenski intends to treat his workers RIGHT but believes understandably that unions in the UK just cause trouble.

CiderwithCerbie. Great TVR name, I suppose at the other end of the scale it would be BabychamwithBoxster.

I think 'grumblesaboutsmolenski' might be a more appropriate tag for old 'cider'

How are you doing then down in Scrumpy land. Still not gotten over the takeover

Not one positive or encouraging post yet I see.

So, he held a meeting of his staff, to which a Union who had bugger all actually to do with either the Company or the staff are miffed about it?

Apparently he also said either support me and the way I intend to run the Company or there is a highly likely chance we go bust.

Terribly sorry but I dont see the problem with this.
First things first, everybody works to turn the company round and support the guy with the balls to have laid his reputation and £15m of his own dosh on the line. After you have done that and secured a financially viable future, *then* you can start to bother about Unions.

I have no truck with any Union that doesnt concern itself with ensuring a company remains viable first. Otherwise aint no jobs to worry about!

All this sounds like dogs fighting over a rabbit - so what's in it for the rabbit?

Certainly a union that accuses the employer of 'bully boy' tactics whilst telling the employees not to talk to them has no sense of irony IMO. ("don't talk to him, he's trying to manipulate you. Only talk to me mate"). Does this union sound even a little bit to you like they would want to work with the factory to secure the future of the workers, or am I the only one who can see the shadow of LandRover and Jaguar in Coventry looming large?

You see this 'pay and conditions' game all the time - ooh he's got a lot of money, let's have some of it. Well people with money don't buy businesses to throw it away, and anyone from industry who has ever walked round the TVR factory will know without a shadow of a doubt that the place was teetering on the edge in terms of control and QA, and it's not a massive leap of faith to extrapolate that to finance.

If I was working at the factory, I think I'd either be backing the new owner or buying a chain of donkeys and a slot on the beach. Stability and security first, pay and conditions later.

Trade Unions are all well and good, in there place, the original idea was good and they were required. IMHO they are now no longer required!

Crickey - what a bunch of right wing nutters!

The image of Unions you have is decades out of date. They remain very relevant in today's environment, where management treat their work force like machines. Unions represent and defend their members in negotiations about money and terms & conditions of service, which individuals could never do effectively and would use up huge amounts of HR time if attempted to agree one by one.

Any proper relationship depends on a balance of power and mutual respect to achieve jointly agreed goals. A resentful and unrepresented workforce will not perform.

My recommendation to Moleskins - Recognise the union and give every worker a small piece of equity in the company and watch performance and quality soar.
