Machine polishers for TVRs?

Wondered whether there were good/bad experiences out there with machine polishers and TVRs?

I know it's an expansive area, but if the paint, or curves, (or something) meant they were inherantly bad subjects, I would rather know sooner than later... Otherwise, thinking about getting one to try and keep the paint in tip top condition...

I've got one and use it with no problems, but you do need to know how to use it properly or you could burn the paint and using the correct polishing pads and polish is important. It does flick polish about a little so be careful with your roof if you have a soft top

I have a Cerb, so no rag to ruin

Did you do much research into your model/make? Or just dive in?

Get a DAS-6 DA. Some Chemical Guys Hex pads. Some Miguiers 105 and 205 polishing compound and jobs a goodun.

There is a little more to it than that.

This...i did the smae (DAS 6 Pro DA polisher + Pads and Polishes). I used 'claen your car' .com, great service. Learned all i needed on you tube...

You need to practice on someone elses car before your own through

I had fab results, but you need to be careful, the paint is thin on TVR's...

I bought a Halfords 240v polisher and Autoglym resin polish. I used it on the Cerbera after giving it a good clay bar with the Mer offering - and relaised I had pearlescent paint!

Took a couple of hours - if I did it again, spent more time on it I reckon I could get it even better.

Go for it. Watch a couple of youtube videos and check out a couple of threads on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk on working on GRP and you'll be fine.

I had no experience before I tried and didn't mess anything up (which believe me is rare ) As far as I managed to find out, TVR weren't exactly shy about slapping the paint on, so you'd really have to try to truly damage the finish. Plus its considered to be very hard paint as well.

My kit includes:

Megs G220 DA Machine
Menzerna Polish
Sonus Pads

They were doing the above as a kit but can't seem to find it now I'm afraid (it was recommended for cars with hard paint).

Excellent range of experiences, and definitely pushing it more into the "keen amateur can do it" bracket than a dark art... Thanks for all the posts - much appreciated. Will post some pics should the temperature ever get high enough to venture out for a power-buffing session.
