I am planning to have a full respray of my Chimaera and understand that there is a paint called Rosso Pearl 3. I am told that this does not fade like the original and that it's exactly the same colour as the original.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Hi, I have just had my 1998 Chimaera Rosso Pearl resprayed by Surface and Design, Blackpool, in Rosso 3. They have done a fantastic job and I would highly recommend them. Speak to either Mike Williams or David Martin for advice.

Thanks for the information. May I ask how much it cost and how long they needed the car for?

Cheers

Normally their turnround time is 4-6 weeks depending on their workload, but they had mine for 3 months over winter as I was in no hurry for the car.
Cost wise is very much dependent on what you require. Mine was completely stripped, with bonnet, boot and doors off, doors completely stripped of trim and mirrors (even removing glass to spray inside mirror housing), roof removed and rear section folded back and maskedup, underbonnet resprayed and new decals fitted. The lights were left in place but masked up, although the rear smoked perspex covers were removed.
Total cost for mine was £4300 as Rosso Pearl paint is expensive, as is the special tinter that is put in the lacquer to bring out the colour. All in all I think the cost was well worth it considering the attention to detail that S&D gave, they would not let me have the car back until they were completely satisfied with the result.
I have been asked to write an article for Sprint, so full photos of the respray will be shown. Unfortunately as I am not much good with the computer, I don't know how to reproduce the photos on here. As I said before, they come highly recommended by myself and also a friend who had his Chimaera resprayed at the same time as mine.

When you reply there is an "Upload an image" link above the text box and below the icons.

Just click that and locate the picture on your pc. Just make sure they are no more than 2mb.

Rosso Pearl to my understanding was what fades. But it could be that newer paint tech means they can now do it such that it wont.

My car started life (R, 1997) as Rosso Pearl, and got repainted to Rosso Corsa 322 (Ferrari Colour).

Clearly a very different colour!

Yes, I think Formula and Rosso are very close agreed.

The fastest colours by far!!
