I might finally be able to get a Chimaera - but I need help!
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I'll start by saying I've always wanted a TVR Chimaera, but they always seemed unobtainable to me. I've recently sold 2 of my project cars and have some money spare. I'm wondering if i can finally get a car I have only previously dreamed of owning. My questions are -
1/ I have £5500 to spend...is this going to be enough to buy a car?
2/ What do i need to be looking for on a car - problems etc?
3/ Where's the best place to look for cars, ebay does not seem the place.
4/ Most Importantly...Would someone from the Midlands area be willing to view/test drive a car with me when i find one? I want to make sure it's ok.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Phil

It is close to your question and covers a lot of what you need to know.
That budget will be tight, but you might get lucky. But in my experience TVR ownership is a case of regular cash outflows....
I am about to be Newark based and will do what I can, but am not an expert. You could get an early 4 litre one for that, but condition could be an issue and you definitely need a through chassis inspection - outriggers rust where you cannot see and cost £2000+ to replace, and are an MOT fail if rusty.

there is a TVR meet at the Bulls Head meriden every 3rd sunday of the month 12noon onwards you are welcome to come down and discuss just make yourself known and you will be made to feel very welcome
I think he is in Chesterfield......so, Phil, rear in gear on 28th April, haul ass down to Chatsworth and see around 500 TVRs on display.
It's a TVRCC event, there are threads to read on here in the TVR Events section before you go, and there will be loads of Chimaera owners there all happy to help, advise and demonstrate what to look for when buying. Might even turn up myself if I am not on DIY duty.
