How to value a reg plate?

Hi everyone

Having bought a new toy I will have to sell my Chimaera but first have a Q about the private plate.

The reg came with the car so I have no idea what it would be worth as a private sale. It could phonetically say 'elate TVR' or 'late TVR' so it's quite a nice plate.

Has anyone bought or sold a similar sort of reg recently and could give me a pointer as to how much I should ask if I sell it separately to the car (either on here or by PM)?

I did that with RegTransfers.......IIRC they gave me a retail price that they would ask for it and a price they would give me......sale or return, not outright purchase.
I've got a couple of private plates, one of which is car related - if you use the Regtransfers site you should be able to work out what it would probably sell for.
I've bought a plate off Ebay.......that's a bit trickier as ideally as a seller you should put it on a retention certificate which costs £125 then simply sell the certificate. Recently I saw an ad on Ebay for C6 TVR (I think - definitely only one digit) and the seller was trying to get £950 - I don't know if it sold, he listed it about 3 times.

Single digit TVR plate, maybe £500-£1000

If it's L reg that's good as it's "old" enough to fit bulk of Chimaeras (most numerous TVR), so that should help demand.

You could ask James Agger to help you sell it maybe?

If yours is only one digit it should be worth a bit more.......if you use the Regtransfers site there's a bit with a sort of grid on it showing letter and number combinations, you can use this to see the difference between one digit and two or three digits.

Not for one that cheap necessarily. Just one that seems fairly good value for money, which that one defo is.

True, but astime goes on there are fewer and fewer people looking to buy TVR plates. this cant help the prices.

I just looked on ebay one day on the off chance, so I got lucky. Having said that I was the only bidder for 4 days and it only reached the minimum.

I always thought it looked good which Is why I kept it (my Tam went to Germany)

Yes nice plate but a very limited number of TVRs can wear that one.

Ooo A TVR! Nice plate. I also really like 321 TVR that seems to be available. Nearly went for BO55 TVR at £1500 which seemed like a bargain to me but have missed out as its no longer on Reg Transfers

Yes I saw that. Too rich for me although that plate would look fantastic on my motor. You could call it a bargain really considering that 4 TVR is a nearly £5K more with VAT!
