Just back from the 2002 Continental Meeting.
Simply fantastic: over 100 TVR's blasting down Zolder circuit.

A certain Mr. Humphries took home a V8S full of trophies. Fortunately, we (Holland) won the relay and Klaus (also Holland) won the sprint, so we can continue to fool everyone that we are fast drivers.

Personally I was pleased I (3rd) could keep up with Peter (1st) on the hill climb. This means the old gal is running quite o.k. The new wheels (17"/16") and Toyo's were great. For next year: more driving training and better brakes!

Excellent news, good to see Peter flying the flag not just for England but for the V8S (albeit slightly modified ).
Look forward to Peters postings about the event on his return.

My face is going to be sore for weeks from all the grinning.

If you weren't at the continental meeting then too bad, you missed a great weekend. But all the better for the rest of us, because if everyone realized what a superb event this is, the team at TVR Car Club Holland would be swamped with applications. I know I'd be filling out an application for next year's event right now, if I could find a form.

I'm not sure what the magic ingredient is. Sure, the hotel is nice, but we have nice hotels in the UK. And no doubt Zolder is a brilliant circuit with lots of corners that just flow together, and is really rewarding to drive. But there's more to it than that. I think what sets this event out from the rest is the hospitality and sheer enthusiasm of the people there. It's hard to explain, but if you were there you'll understand. Anyway, the combination is unmissable.

As Gerjo says, they presented various awards and trophies and I was delighted to be presented with some of the biggest shiniest trophies I've ever seen. The one for 'best overalls' was particularly nice. I felt quite nervous bringing this lot back though customs!

It was sad to have to come back after that, but the drive back was part of the adventure. We came back in a convoy of three V8Ss. The strange thing about convoys is that even though you all average the same speed, the guys at the back have to go a lot faster to keep up. Now, up front Steve was pushing on and averaged about 95 mph over the two hour journey. Adrian got separated and had to put on a burst of speed over ten or fifteen miles. Meanwhile I got separated from Adrian and had to catch up with *him*, while he was making this is hard as possible trying to catch Steve. Suffice to say the speeds involved were very politically incorrect and involved the upper reaches of the rev range in top gear, something you certainly couldn't dream of doing in the UK. So that was a little thrill to round off a great weekend.

If you notice an small advert for a 'continental meeting' next year in Sprint or here on Pistonheads, pay attention. This is the one, get your application in early. But not *too* early, I want to make sure I get mine in first.

PS least said about the relay race the better, I think. Slight tactical blunder by the UK/V8S team put us dead last!

It was a really good day with what must be the way biggest TVR grid in history. I took the camera and shot millions of pictures. If anyone wants a pic of his car please mail the car number, color and model (that will it make easier for me to sort them out) to hansgerd@excite.com and I'll forward your pictures to you. Roll on next year.

Hi All,

Just a short message from the fourth V8S from the team, albeit not a UK-contender. The tactics could do with some improvement (I try to be Brittish with some understatement), but the fun was still there .
Thank you Steve, Adrian and Peter H. for having me on your team and let's practice for better results next year.

Peter "Dutchperson".

Hi Peter (Dutch person)

No worries - thanks for joining the team and briefly flying the wrong flag. Despite our less than glorious performance, the relay event was still great fun and as our aim from the start was to enter a four V8S team, we appreciated you taking up the challenge.

Can I also add my thanks to the organisers of the Zolder bash - it was a fantastic event and I'm sure I'll be back.

It was impressive how on the pace the V8S's were, even in standard "non-Humphries nutter" trim - it's amazing how a stop watch and some silver plastic gets the competitive juices flowing! Here's to another 5 seconds off next year's fastest lap.

Cheers
Adrian

You will be glad to know that I have already started to write the Continental Meeting report for Sprint magazine. I am happy to write nice things about anybody's car - all we need to do is work out the price. I am also looking for a fourth UK V8S for next year! Only nutters need apply. Why not join us and enjoy the Tiller Girls effect on the long drive home (the one at the end goes the fastest)?

First time at Zolder and first track day and first "event". I was more shocked than anybody.

I would like to echo Peters words concerning Zolder. I went in an 8 car convoy all of whom had been before except 2 cars and I had had too miss last year. I was desperate to go this year as it was also my birthday.

The whole experience was one of the best birthdays/weekends I have ever had and I like Peter am now addicted. I will return to Zolder next year without doubt !!

Well done to the Dutch guys who organise it, a real credit to your club and to the guys who supported it.

Cheers

Would have been even more memorable had the Strippergram we booked for you showed up at the dinner I heard she had a headache at the last minute.

Nice to meet you, hope Paul G got back without too much fuss.

Maybe Peter H should be made to carry all the trophies in his car while competing - just to slow him down!
An excellent, well organised event. well done TVRCC NL

Colin,

I won't go into all the details about the hastle that Paul and Mags had over cars, just to say that they had to use 3 cars to get home !! Disgusting level of service from 5 star AA cover.

The problem traanspired to be a sheared dizzy drive and gearing and therefor no oil pump hance no oil pressure.

It was good to meet you too COlin and I'll see you next time. If you're only in Canning Town then maybe a lunchtime pint some day

Cheers

Just met a colleague in the lift who attended - his hair is still a mess, so it must have been a hoot.
