Had some issues at home again and garages/shed broken into and cars spray painted (2 Griffs, Alfa 159, Mondeo and Octavia) and 20 litres of oil tipped over them so need to step up security, again.
Cleaning process has begun. Oil is a nightmare.

That's unbelievable!

Either you've been singled out or things aren't good up there?

Never had the slightest issue here in Surrey and often have 10 cars and a few motorbikes parked up.

We had the house broken into in September and one of them went down for 3 years the other found not guilty (unbelievably) and I'm pretty certain this is retribution.

It probably is unfortunately.

Normal people just have to get on and except that these things may happen when you do the right thing.

The scaffolder that used to work for me took a different approach but ended up in prison for correcting the wrong against him, such is life!

Let's hope that's an end to it.

As to alarms, cctv etc, hardware is so cheap that I would ask an independant specialist for a quote.

Shame you're "up there" as I have 2 friends that fit alarms.

Where are you Paul - take the conversation offline if you wish.
I install and maintain alarms - if you have an existing house alarm I can add a wireless extension to cover outbuildings / garages etc, although it can sometimes be more convenient just to install a separate alarm for your garage.

I am in Bingham East of Nottingham phone at my expense on 0800 533 5678.

Hi Chris

I would be very happy for you to come down to Cambs and sort some thing for my garages and house. I always like to give people I know off work rather than unkown people!

I don't realy have any systems at present so would need some thing new can you help as I need to get something sorted!

Andy

I'd fit one of these. Hasn't done our place any harm (did nearly bite the leg off the table when he was teething)

Some form of CCTV may be a good idea ..... Don't take the law into your own hands once you identify them!!!!!

Thanks all. Got a dog now but only 11 weeks old. We;ve got CCTV around the house but with an acre and garages/sheds 30m away for the house a bit more difficult. Got to spend a lot on CCTV to see any level of detail the Police can pursue, and I mean thousands.
Need something for the garages, and probably put some sort of CCTV down there but £250-300 worth.
The drug addicts are costing us a fortune and grinding us down.
We're in Redditch and happy to install myself as they're not that complex. I was told don't go wireless when we bought the system for the house.

Same here. A big dog seems to work well.

I would seriously consider an outdoor dog if i had that many garages/space outside. Plus, if you buy a mature (and a little aggressive) dog from the pound not only will it solve your security issues it will also save the dogs life as most mature dogs that aren't suitable for households with children (as the pounds put it) end up being put down.

Hopefully this is the end of it now though, it can't be nice to have worries over household security.

Have you got mains power at/in the garage ?

Aside from that, CCTV shouldn't be fortunes. You need a picture of less than 3M wide to make out faces. If you're looking at a face 30M away, you'll need about a 40mm lens.
So look for a camera with a 5-50mm varifocal lens. Cheaper than you think.

I find a wireless baby alarm works well, you can hear clearly anyone messing around by the garage and intercept things before they get too out of hand, obviously mains power would be needed in the garage to be protected, but if an alarm is being considered then I'm guessing that's covered.

When we moved to our current house with 2 acres, garages and the usual sheds all seemed idyllic but after my son allegedly heard some goings on one night we decided to get a dog closely followed by a second one for company.

At the slightest hint of anyone approaching the house, (and their hearing is far superior to ours) they go mental, exactly what they should do!

Recently I have installed a dog flap so that when we are away from the house they have the freedom to patrol!

The dogs have been a bit life changing, we're all a bit healthier as a trade off for the security!

Good luck with your security.

I have a YALE wireless, less than £200 from TESCO. Not the best but does for me. Fitted myself but need to wear ear muffs setting up. Gave me a fit! With an acre of ground some geese are an option. The Romans used them. Very sorry to hear this Paul, the loosing bds, always will be, self inflicted! A drain on the NHS.

I have got power at the garages/sheds. I've got CCTV on the house now and the images aren't bad but for £400 it was a good deal and to get a 100% face ID they need to be very good, and more difficult when they have balaclavas on. The problem with CCTV is that I'll be able to view them but would prefer an audible signal. I've looked at beam detection systems and they seem good although most are wireless which I don't really want. Prefer hard wiring and linked up to a loud (110db+) alarm bell, possibly controlled via a key pad with tamper cicuit. Not sure yet.

No deer (that I've seen), just foxes.
If I set at say just over 1m high the foxes/cats won't trigger it.
