Like many before me I've been lurking with intent, trying to learn as much as possible, before parting with my hard earned. I would love a Cerbera, but don't really want that level of financial commitment at the moment, so my attention is drawn to the Chimaeras. Without wishing to offend anyone, I would only want either a 450 or 500, but have also seen a few 4.0 cars that have benefitted from new 4.6 V8 developments engines. These seem like a good bet, as I know about the well worn debate that goes on surrounding the true power of the 450 and 500 cars. What's the opinion on here regarding the 4.6 enginged cars, many of which seem to have upgraded cams etc too? I guess rarity will favour a 500 from a future resale perspective, but I'm far more interested in knowing which would be the most rewarding car for the money. Thanks in advance and please don't bombard me with offers of your car just yet! smile

I think these days it's about condition rather than engine capacity.

When you start getting to V8D / JE engines, I think normal rules no longer apply.

Nice Griff 500 in the classifieds with a V8D lump...

You cannot compare a standard 450 / 500 against anything offered by these guys - their offerings are far superior IMO.

Thanks Podie. Do the 450 or 500 have any cahssis/brakes trickery that an upgraded 4.0 car wouldn't have?

Later cars had 260mm front brakes whereas very early cars had 240mm. Don't recall much suspension wise - but I'm sure someone will correct me.

The Crystal Topaz (96) Griff - on ebay too?

My 500 is a V8D as was my 4.6 Wedge I had a couple of years ago - most/all? come with a different cam to the original eg H404, Stealth, MC1 and variables such the spec of the V8D engine means 'normal rules don't apply'.

You were having some issues getting yours to run to your satisfaction post turbo install. I take it things are resolved now?

Hi Stuart, not sure it was me I don't have a turbo.... I see you're in East Anglia, I'm going to be home Friday for a week to ten days though so if you fancy a ride in a Chim with a V8 Dev 5.0 litre lump it would be my pleasure :-)

Well I lost a 200 Euro note out of my pocket earlier this evening and that still hurts, so I'm not totally numb just yet! hehe
