HI
I have a worn camshaft which needs to be replaced in a 4ltr Chimaera (just over 70k miles incidentally).

Don't know whether to keep it standard or go for a small upgrade. Seeing as I've got to do something about it anyway the cost difference isn't that great.

The Kent KC DMC1 kit has been recommended, any opinions on that one out there?

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Kim, that sounds pretty impressive.

I was only considering the cam kit at the moment, but I don't know anything about it, such as profile etc!

Cheers,

Andy

Had my cam changed when the head gasket blew. The new found torque was great, but the running rough below 2000rpm is a real downer. I wish I had gone for a standard cam. Oh well, when I have a grand spare I might get it replaced. until then I'll just have to keep my right foot firmly down.

Bleed down lifters are supposed to help, but I have no personal experience. Dam sight cheaper than a grand though.

I'm told the Kent KC DMC1 kit includes tappets (that'd be lifters wouldn't it?) and maybe springs too, so I'd hope they're chosen suitably.

I'd like to get the Mark Adams Magic performed on it next year as well, that reportedly helps with the typical "shunt" at low RPM, as well as just generally better all round!

Cheers,

Andy

any performance camshaft from the mc1 up regardless who supplies or designs the cam is going to give a not very smooth tickover, the best advice i can give is, look at the rpm where you mostly drive and choose a cam that suits, then have a chip from mark adams to smooth things out on idle

When TVR power recently re-built my 450 chim engine they installed a really spicey cam which just did not do it for me. The car was horrible to drive below 3000 rpm. Anyway, they replaced that one with something between that and standard and also fitted a matching chip. It now runs great. Have a chat with Dom at TVR Power.
