Serp engine without belt tensioner?

Any serp engines designed to run without belt tensioner? My new engine has no tensioner fitted and the belt is adjusted on the alternator bracket? Is this common?

It will be fine it most likely the JE bracket you got, I had no issues with mine

Where did you get the bracket from? Google is not being my friend today and my tensioner wheel bearing is squealing like a pig at a slaughter house!

I've got this set up in a box ready to go on.

Around £125 if I remember, that was fr bracket and 2 shortened belts, always have a spare

A replacement bearing is about £8.

Hmmm
Still not sure about this. I have the JE bracket and whilst it pulls the belt tight it is twisting under load and is a bit noisier than I would like it. Anyone else have this problem?

The bracket is twisting? I doubt that as it's a hefty casting... maybe the alternator is not spaced/packed properly on its pivots if there's mechanical movement between pulleys (or the bracket is not tight on the motor)?

On mine, I run the belt tight enough so that it can be twisted by 90deg midway on the longest run (have power steering). Very occasionally get just the merest hint of a squeal on start-up but never in operation and it has not appreciably slackened in over three years since fitment. One of the best mods on a Serp IMO (plus endless scope for banter on whether the alternator stay is the right way round)

I run the JE setup on the tuscan racer ( no pas) and the Chimaera ( with Pas) no squealing issues on either.. You do need to make sure the adjuster bracket is properly spaced on the alternator or it twists and snspas the bracket and would probably make things

No problems here neither tensioner should look like this and as a guide the belt should just be able to do a 90 degree twist on the longest run with your thumb and forefinger
