I haven't heard enough TVR's to make a judgment call on this and I similarly appreciate that people have sports exhausts etc etc but is there a TVR modle that is generally louder than the others ?

Yes, the wedge models, 1984 - 1991 ish, particularly the big wedges (400/450SE/SEACs).

Yes its true, the bigger wedgie models do sound awesome, this is not to say that all the rest of TVR's are not very loud indeed. Loud as in bloody nice loud.

I have had the good fortune to have owned a 350i / 400SE and 450SEAC. Without a doubt the best and loudest was the 400. The SEAC was loud but with no pop'n bang on the over run could'nt better my 400.

I've got the Cerbera, but prefer the sound of the Rover engined Chims & Griffs

The pre-cat Griffs are not far behind the wedge's in the sound department. Obviously each car is a little different but I think in general an SE would probably be around 110 decibels and a 4 ltr griff about 106. A 500 griff with sports exhaust would prob be in the top 90's or there about. I expect track day bods on here would happily quote figures for you. These figures may differ quite a bit depending on the exact car spec, testing equipment, methods and enviromnment.

The noise from my 400SE is intoxicating..deeeep burble at tickover, awesome V8 howl up the rev range followed by more popping and banging than 5th November
Blipping the throttle whilst changing down through the gears and when stationary becomes 2nd nature too..!

Setting off car alarms is a speciality

I got the exhaust on the chim modified at offords so it sounds like a sports exaust and the noise is awsome. It sounds great going through tunnels!!!

Think 4.5BV in my Wegde, with modified stainless is loud enough In fact very loud

But does bring a smile to your face at every throttle blip and when the car alarms all go off in unison at work every morning
