Request for info V888 Form
Discussion
Am in the process of filling one of these in to get the history on my car and hopefully contact some of the old owners and fill in some of the gaps in its history ...
Anyway 2 of the questions are:
1) What info do you want and why
2) How are you going to use the information
Wondered if anyone on here has filled one out in the past and what are the best answers to give.
Thanks

Without wishing to be proscriptive I would suggest the honest answers you are seeking concerning your questions Otherwise the whole basis of using the system is misplaced.Anyway 2 of the questions are:

The simple answers are I want to complete a full history of the car such as colour changes, previous owners etc
I want it for my personel use
Just wasnt sure how to word it, but i understand what your saying in your post.
I do not think the forms were designed for this use nor was the system intended for this use. I suspect that you will be knocked back. This is essentially privileged information which the casual enquirer has no right to obtain. Hence my original concern concerning the direction and intention of the questions,I want it for my personel use

I own the car so its not a casual enquiry :-).. and I was given the form by the DVLA for the exact purpose of getting this info.

I own the car so its not a casual enquiry :-)I did it recently (3 months ago) to get info on my 355. In the boxes give honest answers why you want the info. That's what I put and about a month later I got copies of old MOT's, old V5's from when it changed hands and and a list of the previous 8 keepers (addresses for each obviously only correct at the time the car was moved on).
Great to have in the history file for the car. My next job is to try contacting some of the previous owners to find out any more interesting info on my car. Well worth doing for a £5.

Got the info back today
36 pages of info, including ALL the previous owners info, notification of colour changes and info about when it was exported. Also some old MOT info
Turns out David Gerald owned the car at one point.
Best fiver I have spent this year by far!
Well done you. It would appear that the DVLA are changing their attitude to such enquiries. Can you confirm the form of wording in the letter you sent which produced this response please? I may well try the same route on some of my cars.

I beleive under the freedom on information act, as long as you are the owner, have filled in the form and sent the fee, there is little they can object to.

I dont remember the exact wording I used, I just told them the truth which was along the lines of I own an historic vehicle and am trying to compile a folder of its history for my own use, which was exactly what I was trying to acheive.
I have already noticed some errors in the dates of ownership they have sent me, so I wouldnt take it as 100% correct but its a very good start. There is also some differences from the info I got from the TVRCC. So theres still plenty of work to do and things to follow up on, but it was definately worth doing.

Most interesting you have taught me something new and I appreciate the lesson. Very helpful indeed, I will follow this process on a number of my classic cars. The FOI act never occurred to me as relevant, Excellent result!https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/141112/resp...
