I know, I know, TVR have said it'll be like 2 years before a new car is released but we can speculate, right?

I still think the Typhoon (silly name aside) was a great direction: http://forums.finalgear.com/automotive-news/tvr-ty...

It's a bit too theatrical for me. I have to admit that the Sag was as well when it first came out.

In boom times more people want flare etc but in times of austerity I wonder if something too dramatic will fail to appeal to the group of English who have the money at the moment?

Dare I say that the more classical looks of the 90s cars may attract more buyers? Not suggesting the same look but a similar ethos.

Yes, I still think the Griff was the pinnacle of their design language. Perhaps something like the way eagle updated the e-type might be a good starting point

Or the jag F type concept:

IMHO they should have 2 cars in the initial range:-
1) A'modern' Sagaris with the characteristic wild design aimed at the real supercar market.
2) An update on the Griff/Chim/Cerb stying with smooth classic sportscar lines.

Offer 2 engines for each. S6 and AJP. in sorted condition.

Later maybe a 2+2 .

some questions:

the new owner is publishing everywhere that he has not a clue about building cars, so do those new owners even have enough enthusiam and passion to built cars?

who wants to own a TVR with a Corvette engine?

where are those cars built?

does blackpool profit from it?

i think 3 questions can be answered immediately with "no"

imo, re-founding TVR is completely pointless under such conditions.

1 - some do, not you obviously. Jack Griffith did OK shoe horning in V8's in to Granturas - like it or not it is part of the heritage of TVR already.
2 - I don't care, although I'd obviously prefer it to be the UK, it certainly doesn't need to be in Blackpool, nice an idea as it is.
3 - I doubt it. But is every car manufacturer still based in the same place they started? The world moves on, and new TVR may need to as well.

The idea that the venture shouldn't move ahead because they're not replicating the exact decisions of the previous owners is somewhat bizarre, certainly a little restricted in its view.

Given that the decision of the last owners didn't exactly lead to a successful business, perhaps change is needed?

It would certainly make sense to locate where the most subsidies are found in correlation to suitable labour. One has to assume that this isn't going to be Wentworth but maybe up the M1?

I think it also fair to say that labour intensive but simple work such as chassis construction and shells would be done overseas where labour costs are closer to zero?

If you are farming out elements then you will need to locate in the same area as that expertise?

I seem to remember a rumor that Zagato was approached by TVR for a concept and it progressed quite far then TVR pulled out. Zagato then sold the concept and the result is the Perana.

Yes, I like this. Needs to be 'productionised' in terms of ground clearance and other practical aspects but the proportions are very TVR

That's not correct.

TVR did speak to Hi-Tech in SA about building the existing cars but it went no further than that.

Hi-Tech via investors were responsible for the Perana which has now become the AC 378 GT, no TVR connection although it is from the same school of thinking so to speak.

We can't see that over here in the UK. It's an 'overseas' BBC site that we don't have access to.

Here is the cited Lucra from the BBC story:

The nose and front bonnet looks a heck of a lot like a 1970's era Corvette

Fair enough, I just seem to remember Zagatos involvement (who Car and Driver reported as the designer) coming from failed talks to TVR or some concept. Either way, its still a good looking car that I wish had, one way or another, been a TVR wink

Maybe I was confusing this: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1027804_zagato-...
