Now I've got one of these things I'm interested in how everything works.

Some of it is smack-you-in-the-face obvious, but not all of it.

So I thought it would be useful if we have a thread where we can exchange information / ask daft questions.

For now I'd like to know three things.

My car is a 1992 pre-cat 4.3 Griffith which has no Lambda sensors

I have a reading for LamA and nothing for LamB
So what is LamA reading and telling me?
Is it all the inputs in Section 16. Lambda Operation in the manual

The RPM counter stops at 1950rpm
Is it a case of TADTS and if so why?

My car runs on map GREEN
According to the ECUMate guide this is correct for my Pre-Cat
The tune resistors commonly used in the UK are Green for vehicles
with no catalytic converters and White for vehicles with them
but I'm curious why I'm not running Yellow. Anyone know?

Red - No Cat - Australian
Green - No Cat - Europe & UK 3.9 (or 3.5 Disco)
Yellow - No Cat - Gulf States or Europe and UK 4.2
Blue - CAT - Gulf States or Europe and UK 4.2
White - CAT - Europe & UK 3.9 (or 3.5 Disco)
N/A - CAT - Limp Home

The lambda information is not relevant in your case but the ECU does seem to create its own default values for some reason.

The rev display is limited to 1950 because this is the internal calibrated value and is not updated when the revs go beyond this. The reason is that the processor does not do maths quickly and can't calculate the revs and run the ECU so it stops.

The tune should be green or white. Yellow is a bit of a strange one and was designed for the 4.2 engines. The Griffs were essentially based on the 3.9 engine and not the 4.2. Might be worth a try changing the tune resistor to see what difference if any it might make.

An update from the man himself. Thanks very much for the information Steve.

Although I can weild a spanner I don't go much beyond that so I think I'll leave the tune resistor since I now know everthing is as it should be in ECU world.

Initially I was surprised at the physical size of the ECUMate, but now I'm glad its not the size of a satnav like I expected or I'd leave it plugged in all the time and watch it!
