Has something changed recently regarding what catergory TVR's fall into or something similar?? Just took out a new policy on my mk1 Tuscan. As I use it as my daily drive, it's on a normal, everyday policy the same as you would have with your euro wagon etc with the following cover options:

Protected no-claims
Legal protection
Kept on a driveway
10,000 annual mileage
Valued at £15k
£0 voluntary excess
Social/pleasure useage and commuting to work.

Last year it cost me around £900 with Direct Line, this year the renewal was £738, but I have now changed insurers to Churchill and it comes out at a grand total of £304.22??!

I am not in anyway complaining, just can't work out why it's so cheap all of a sudden? It's the cheapest insurance I have EVER had and the first time I have been able to pay it upfront in one go!

Did you age go over one of the thresholds between this year and last year? Either way seems a great deal =)

Noticed both my policies plummet too. Can't be sure but it might be something to do with them not being able to charge a levy any more because you are a bloke.
Or an age things as previous poster said.

Either way good news.

This seems to be happening with all car insurance policies at the moment.

It could be due to the recent equality legislation and the crackdown on fraudulent whiplash and crash-for-cash claims.

I'm with Mannings...

Aged 30, 9 years NCD, 5000 miles including track day cover.

Renewal was £282 (compared to £340 for the first year).

Mannings told me I needed 1yr NCB on a TVR/Cerb before they could quote me.. Despite coming from big engined BMW's.

I turned 32 yesterday, insurance renewed today but I wouldn't have thought 32 is any sort of threshold?!
I didn't ask about trackday cover to be honest, I think they can provide it though upon request but don't 'quote' me on that!
I know about the equality thing but surely it can't drop it as much as £600?? Also I know a fair few people with such cars go with Mannings and they can be quite cheap, but they have restrictions on their policies like 5000 miles, must be kept garaged and not left anywhere overnight etc, all of which are no good to me. Which is why I am so surprised as it is a normal car policy!

Strange, I had RWD experience in an MX5, a year or so in a 5 series but no TVR experience. Maybe the Chim is easier to insure than the Cerb?

Both my Chimaera and Cerbera renew within a few weeks of each other (so does Tax and MOT - top planning there Mark!), Cerbera came back at about £30 less than the Chimaera renewal. So I called them and explained that there was no way I was going to pay more to insure a 4.0 Chimaera than a 4.5 Cerbera.
They saw my point and dropped the Chimaera by £50. Bonus smile

did't the government got involved with insurance companies about over 12 months ago that the teenagers are been priced out, where by insurance cost moor than the car is worth.
and also about the black box fitted to the car. and few other stipulations.
i can vaguely remember this, or something of this nature.

Wow, crazy money!! I can only assume that is the claim that's the issue there?? The only one cheaper than Churchill that came up for me was Privilege. Adrian Flux had a slightly better cover but came in at £420...

Have you tried classic car cover? It doesn't need NCD. Also, with standard ins, if you're the owner and sole driver it's usually possible to get your NCD mirrored across.

Does seem strange given that this sector of the insurance market has always been loss making and hasn't made a collective operating profit since 1994 but rates are considered to be reducing because insurers are predicting the impact of the Lapso reforms which is expect to reduce their claims cost by 6 to 15%. Make the most it.

My tasmin was £110ish last year, this year £84 on a classic policy thro lancaster. no ncd. s&d use only and the wife and oap dad on the policy.
but it's just the high powered exotic market that is cheaper. my run of the mill 10yr old astra sri, £340 last year, full no claims me and the wife s,d&c doen to £146 this year with the nodding dog.
dont think we passed any age limits, I'm 42 and the mrs is in her 30's (i think)
long may it continue.
