Cat D chassis check

Potential scenario here... buy a Cat D car (most likely a Tuscan), strip, rebuild, enjoy. Question is who/where to take the chassis to check for any damage repairs/correct alignment etc? Someone familiar with TVR chassis/has a jig? Notwithstanding the invariable 'fibreglass damage only' statements I would be muchly inclined to take the thing apart and put it back together myself after absolutely totally with no question of doubt confirming that the chassis was 100% sound in all respects. Peace of mind thing if you will.... And if it all falls apart at 150mph I'll have only myself to blame

So who're the Tuscan chassis guru's?

Cat d should only be light damage so it should only be cosmetic type damage. So is this a stable mate for the chim? You know it makes sense to have 2 , I have never looked back

The scale of damage to a car is relative to the value of the car at the time of the accident. In other words, a car could have a more severe accident when nearly new, that because of it's value, got repaired and never recorded. Yet, an older car could become a Cat D pretty easily. Not quite as applicable to TVRs as many other cars, due to them retaining their values better than most, but thought I'd mention it. Slightly off topic, but there are a couple of Cat D 500 Griffs in the classifieds (sorry Chilli! ) which I keep looking at. I'm going to have to stop looking and get my wallet out soon. Things have settled down work wise, so I'll hopefully be giving you a shout soon.

Morning Scott, TBH my ideal stable mate for the Chim is still a 4.5 Cerb, but I've still got space problems at the mo I still struggle with the concept of a bit of fibreglass damage knocking so much value off a TVR, just seems ludicrous to me...

I'm aware of the uncomfortable stereotypes that both models' owners are burdened with by the opposing camp! You do know that you are all going to have to bury the hatchet one day in a world of ever decreasing TVR numbers though don't you?!!
Look forward to catching up with you in a week or two. Perhaps if you're heading into Norwich you could divert to mine (Poringland) and we can wave beastie under my wife's nose in a vain attempt to garner some enthusiasm!

My old chim and current cerb are both cat d never put me off if it was repaired well a rotten chassis is a much bigger concern or a engine that smokes or rattles would put me off. As long as you get it for the price.

very true I have a cat c the only damage to that was front & rear fiberglass the nose was replaced & rear end repaired cat C & D on TVRs wouldn't worry me at all

Doesn't worry me either, was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of chassis specialists, guess it would be companies like Sportmotive, Racing Green etc if you wanted a recognised TVR specialist to inspect it and confirm its integrity.

Scole Engineering know their TVRs if you didn't want to travel as far.

Called in to see them about four weeks ago on the way back from having new tyres fitted to the 16" Estorils (now fitted to the front and awaiting the new brake kit to be fitted). Oddly they never seem to spring to mind when I'm thinking about TVR specialists, possibly because they hardly ever get mentioned on PH...... Stuart, I'll make sure I polish beastie so your missus will be uber impressed

From what I have seen over the years TVR chassis are quite hard to damage, in the last 7 years I have only seen 1 that needed minor repairs, and we have had a lot come back home.

IIRC the bet was beastie doing a sub 12? Shirly you can't doubt that Neal? I seem to recall we had a fiver on it Apart from which beastie now has faired in headlights
