I'm contemplating selling my 944T and getting a second TVR to use as my daily drive to work. The journey is only 12-13 miles each way and all 'a' road with no traffic. The thing is I don't want anything too similar to the Griff as I want it to still feel a bit different and special when I jump in it for weekend drives and touring holidays/weekends away. A nice 'S3' or Wedge(400SE I was thinking) both appeal but which would be the most different to the griff and most suitable for the daily trip to work and back all year around?

I think this is luvverly and has the advantage (for a daily) of no hood smile

S will have a different engine to the Griff, whereas Wedge will have a different shape - so would be down to your preference.

I made my decision when I sat in them, so best to try one of each at the next TVR event you are at...both a have some of the friendliest TVR owners who offer a lot of tech support to keep them going - check out the S and Wedge forums.

...then make the right decision and get an S... wink

hello stranger!

go for an S mate, cheap to run, lovely little chuck around toy, great fun. I keep looking out for my old one thinking one day it might be nice to have her back homehehe

isn't it about time the griff was back on the road?

The wedge is a more comfortable better sorted car, very under-rated. The S's were made to a price so not as good build quality.

Hows it going mate wavey
The Griff has been on the road for ages until just recently which is probably why i'm craving a TVR 'fix' now, and I'm afraid the Porker just doesn't do it for me!
It's going to be a While before I get it back so I need something to put a smile back on my face until next spring/summersmile

having had a wedge and a griff and driven a few 's'

I'd say go for the wedge as a daily driver

they're a bigger car than the other two with more interior space and a very useable boot - obviously get a V8 and if you do get 350i then ensure you get the uprated / vented discs on the front as the standard non vented are pretty rubbish

the 400SE was pretty sorted by the end with power steering and better ventilation than the earlier cars and this would be my pick too

handling wise a well sorted wedge will still reward like a TVR can but they're not as 'sharp' as the griff or S but they are more comfortable and are less likely to spin on you due to the wheelbase being a good bit longer and its the easiest car of the 3 to hold a power slide in

plus the looks do grow on you and they're plenty different enough from modern traffic to stand out

No competition here - The S was the baby brother to the wedges which are much better built and longer lasting. On S cars look out for rotted out fabricated trailing arms, water leaks just about everywhere and some iffy electrics. Never seemed as well screwed together as a wedge (I had two one of which I still own)

If you must have an S - try and get a V8S a stopgap designed to keep TVR in business whilst the Griff was developed ( see Classic cars last month!)
