I would go along with that , the one time i needed help in the south of France in my ex 430se Wedge the cooling fans packed up , they did not quible 1 bit and paid out , i had the replacement fans UPS`ed from England and a very confused French bloke fitted them in a day.

Im sure he had no idea what the hell sort of car he was working on

Had to use AA 5 star for the first time ever this year at Le Mans. Up until then I'd never needed to use the service but always taken out cover.
Slave cylinder went on my Cerbera (mounted within bell housing so gearbox out job, and TVR unique part). No problem with AA who arranged for car to be recovered home, and provided me with hire car.
Definitely worth having "just in case".

I've just got back this evening from a 2,600 mile jaunt to Italy in the Chimaera - took AA 5 Star cover out as always, never needed it yet but for the 40 odd pounds a week it's worth it for the peace of mind.

BTW, the car performed faultlessly and was thoroughly thrashed in France, Switzerland and Italy. It even behaved in the traffic in Milan. It's now sitting in the garage waiting for a good wash. I just love those European roads I'm planning my next trip already.

Oh, someone mentioned it was hard to find Super Unleaded in Italy - I didn't have a problem.

One of the cars we went with to Zolder had a Dizzy gear failure and no oil pressure. This is the following saga with AA 5 satr when it was decided the car was not repairable...

1 - We're in Holland and intend to carry on through France for an extended stay but they can't have a hire car from Holland 'cos it would have to be returned to Holland.

2 - Sent a taxi to collect them and take them to Belguim to get a hore car to then drive back to Holland.

3 - 30 mins down the road to get phone call to say place is shut and they'll have to drive for another hour at least. Paul at this point got them to take them back to the hotel.

4 - Next day taxi'd to Belguim to get a car.

5 - This hire car can only go as far as Dunkerque. Part of the package is to have to cross back via the tunnel. Not their planned holiday.

6 - Get to Dunkerque and have to change car for another one JUST to go on the ferry !!

7 - Get off ferry and have to change the car again for another one.

8 - Then have to drive 70 mile the following day to drop of this car.

I am not with AA and after watching the total and ridiculous amount of aggrovaton Paul and his wife went through to sort this out and the massive mobile phone bill I wouldn't giv 'em spit for their policy !

Sold on the basis of continuing your holiday stress free....total bollox of the highest order. No-one managed their problems and it was shuffled from one office to another. Total crap.

Check your small print carefully. If you're just in France maybe it would be OK but if you need to cross a border forget.

For the amount of money it costs there was no customer service...no "we'll sort this out sir" just ridiculous excuses.

I am sure some people have had so great experiences of AA and I'm not a member, just relating a story.

Cheers

Mark
