Hi, does anyone know this car and do you think it's a fair price for a Cat D?
It's around the very top end of my budget and I had set my heart on a Chim because my money would go further, but this is priced roughly in line with a non Cat D Chim. The photos are pretty hopeless, so I wondered if anyone knew more.

If I recall correctly Cat D is an "economic" write-off, (the insurance company deems the cost of repair is more than the "value" of the car) so I'd not be too worried about the car from that point of view.
I had an XJ6 Jag that was rear ended by a drunk in a 4x4 closing speed of approx 40mph, the Jags bumpers absorbed >90% of the impact (they have energy absorbing mounts that are about 8" made of strong plastic) and the only "damage" to the car was a broken light lens and a small 50p sized dent between the light and the boot lid.
The insurance co wrote it off as it would have cost more in labour/parts than the car was worth.
They would have probably had to repair the small dent and the slight (barely noticeable) curl in the boot lid, add the bumper and spray costs and you can see why they made that decision.
I put new bumper mounts on and replaced the light lens, and whilst it didn't look as nice as it had before it functioned just as well, I eventually replaced the bumper with a used one.
Cat-D is likely to be mostly "cosmetic" damage so as long as that has been done there is no reason to expect the car not to be as good as any other, but I do understand why it has to be decalred.

I wouldn't be bothered for a cat D they're barging to be had. It's like anything else go with an open mind do your home work and ask lots of questions. It looks a great car for the money and I'm sure it's a well known car. If I was looking for a griff I'd be having a look and bidding him 12k and work from there good luck
