TVR Griffith / Chim Roll Cages and Bars...?
Discussion
I have to have 4 off these made for race cars in the next few months.
I had one made to my spec in my Monster Griff Racer, that came in sections and could be used as a full cage or just left in as a rear section for roll over and side impact protection. It fitted under the roof and inside the doors.
The cost of these as rocketed from the main sources, so I am in the process of designing and making my own (as I've said I have 4 to build in any case for race projects) so basically would anyone like one? They will be in CDS and to MSA regulations for integrity.
I am thinking of 2 types.
Full Race Cage
Road rear section (behind seats over bar with drops to rear diff carrier)
I'll be doing these as a service covering the costs of steel/labour/shipping etc so Mods...not going to retire on this!
This will be a 1 time thing. Not worth doing as an item, but whilst we are doing them it will add to the safety of some track road cars
cheers

Sportmotive do a good rear hoop that fits inside the standard roof, not a bad price either. I just got one.
I know my brother is looking at the str8six full cage for his build right now, i will make him aware of this thread...
Phil.

I'm after something abit more substantial and to regs. Will include harness mounts and side impact protaction too.
But the sportmotive one for roadcars looks OK. Didnt know they did one.

Andy, out of interest i have already cut holes in my floor for front leg mountings. I had to estimate the position for the extra brackets that need welding to the outriggers.
Assuming your proposed cages will be supplied with the extra mounting brackets and plates to allow for fitment, is there a recognised position and mounting arrangement/method required to pass MSA regs, and therefore standardise the holes in floors cutting exercise.
The reason i ask is that a simple sketch showing what holes need cutting and the position of them, will allow preparation at the strip out stage.
Oh, and do we need seat mounting strips welded to the chassis while we are at it?
Does DTEC suggest a preferred cage mounting perhaps?
All very interestinG.. :-]

Ok...questions
Cost-don't know yet but considerably cheaper than those known
Yes to Msa regs so set positions for a post legs b posts and c posts
Yes all brackets supplied
Yes strong enough to sprint / race with harness points
Yes your seat needs to be mounted to the chassis and while your at it, drop the seat height for lower cog and to improve head clearance
We can help with all of that and can fit them if required

I know they are all like this Geoff but I always think that the front legs need more strength in their location.
The rear side supports have at least the diagonal supports on the weaker outrigger tubes but the fronts are bolted to the thin outriggers.
Given the chassis construction, a TVR will in no way stand up to a multiple roll like a rally car but better then nothing.
Not knocking it as the designer has fixed points to work on.
BTW, good photo of the set up, gives us a clear picture of the construction.

Hi Peter , yes see what you are saying about front leg mount , Mat has inserted a tube from the outrigger to the central spine at this point. The cross bar the runs under dash is mounted very securely to centre of chassis too but not shown in picture. And yes seat bars are a good idea or a thick plate bolted on top of the corner pieces where floor of tub sits.
My car build has stalled since I brought a almost ready to race Tasmin , just refreshing windows etc at the moment. The all important race license is next big step.

If they are going to be along similar lines to your old "Caged" one then i am interested. I'll give you a call when i get 5 mins to discuss mate
