Morning chaps,
I've tried. Really I've tried. But, in my internal "which GT" debate, I can't get rid of the nagging voice that says "...but what you really need is a Cerbera".
It's up against some other options (that on paper are much more sensible, albeit more expensive) but there's a large part of me thinks that after a few weeks with any of the other options I'll still want a Cerb (which will be a problem, as the GT will be car no. 4 and I just can't justify 5...).
I really need to either kill this thought off or get ready to make the search a little more serious and have a look at a few cars so that I know what a good one looks like. TVRCC is the obvious place to start but, as car clubs can be strange beasts and the forum over there is members only, just wondered if anyone on here had any insight about the club (in particular in/near Cheshire)?
Likewise, any other suggestions about where to see a few Cerbs without wasting people's time in the classifieds would be really appreciated (hoping to buy prior to Chatsworth).

As I have recently bought a Cerb as a project, I joined the TVRCC to meet other owners and see their cars. I have used the members forum and had a good trawl around the site.
First impressions? Poor really. The advice and info on here is, in my opinion, much better. Ask a question and someone comes up with the answer.
I have been to Sherburn in Elmet (quite a few TVRs), Doncaster (4 TVRs), and Stamford (lots of TVRs, around 20) car shows and not one TVR owner has spoken to me at those locations other than a very helpful chap at Doncaster who gave me lots of helpful advice. At Stamford, I approached 2 ladies sitting between the cars (Cerbs) and they just glared at my partner and I. Most of the other drivers never seemed to be with their cars(?). I hung around for ages at Sherburn to talk with the Cerb owner (over an hour) and never saw him. Some friendly smiles to others were ignored.
I find it all a bit sad that when a new member joins a club that the area rep is neither informed nor made aware. The onus is all on a new member to make all the moves which surely defeats the whole point of a club asking you to join THEM?
How hard would it be for the club to email the area rep who could then invite you personally - they have your email and phone number - to come along to the area meetings? Do you enjoy walking into a room full of people you don't know and saying, "I'm the new boy here". Perhaps its just me but my partner thinks the attitude of some leaves a lot to be desired.

TVRCC might not be super organised but we're a friendly bunch? I'm surprised you haven't encountered Trickie Dickie yet. He's one of WY's ROs and one of the nicest, most inclusive TVR guys out there. Give him a PM and he'll hook you up with the right people in your region. Or come over to NY - we meet at the Red Lion, Poppleton, A59 Nr York on the second thursday from 7pm on.First impressions? If it was the recent Stamford car show we were there with the TVRCC. I spent quite a bit of time chatting to people that wandered up and asked us about our car (3000M). We were parked next to 2 Cerbs and I know one of the owners chatted to quite a few people.
Can't speak for everyone but I can assure you that there were Cerb owners there that could have talked to you about Cerbs until you'd had enough
At our recent club meeting a chap turned up that was thinking of buying a Chim. I believe he left after chatting to several owners and was there a couple of hours.

I initially joined the TVR car club for reduced insurance rates and other benefits.
I have attended quite a few of the meets at the above venue, and everybody there is nothing but friendly.
From memory there were 3 cerbs at the last meet, with one of the guys heavily involved with his cerb in sprinting etc....so a wealth of info, especially on any problems to look out for.
Non members are more than welcome so pop along and say hello.

Well, I am sure you are correct, but I cannot seem to find them! We were very closely inspecting the Cerbs and seeing how some parts were fitted. I was on my hands and knees trying to see which exhaust systems were fitted. Pretty obvious to anyone I might have been interested! The year before when I showed my car, I spoke with lots and lots of visitors and showed them around the car. We also took a lot of interest in the interiors as this needs so be addressed in mine. The black and yellow Cerb stood out a bit!However, as I said, the glare we got from those 2 ladies would have scared Kojak. We did have some nice talks with a Morris 1000 owner, a DB7 owner, a Mustang owner, a Spitfire owner......
The point I wanted to make was that the club should make the effort to be inclusive. So, having paid up, got your welcome pack, wouldn't it just be a nice touch for the area rep to email or better still, make a short phone call to welcome you and invite you along to a meeting? Surely that is the way forward?

I'm RO for the East Mids region and was at Stamford with quite a few others, including GadgeS3C.
I don't know the people you mentioned at Stamford, they could be club members but equally they might not be.
We always try to chat with anyone we see and, as Gary has already said, at our last meeting one potential buyer spoke to several of our members who had experience of what he was looking for.
I hope your experience so far hasn't put you off.

I've had some... interesting experiences with that approach when doing other
clubs.
It depends on the attitude on the person taking the call.
The best thing would be for an option that the new member indicates when they

them. Some people I've called in the past (with other clubs) got... uppity about
being called up for an introduction.
Personally, I think being too proactive with new members (or old members who have
not come for a long time) can be counter productive. Some people just like to mellow
or lurk, some people like to participate. I think having an RO jump on you when you
have just joined can be a bit overwhelming.
So, have a compromise. If someone wants to have a nice chat about what is on offer,
they can ring the RO or indicate that they would like the RO to ring them.

If my rep calls me sometime, I would be very pleased to hear from him/her. So when I go to the first meeting I might have an idea who the rep is. This same problem came up in the Aston Martin club and the reps' suggestion was for them to wear a small name badge so newbies would know who to approach. Some reps disagreed but at one show it didn't half make it easy to locate the person you were looking for. A simple solution.
I like the idea of a question on the application form asking if you would like to be contacted by the rep. That really would solve this little issue. Good thinking there!
Hi Michael, we went to the Cars In The Park near Leeds, last Sunday in the M3 just so we could get in!
Saw a couple of Cerbs and approached the owners. One from Sheffield and one from Doncaster way - dont have their names - think one is Supateg on here(?). It was like a double act, Cannon and Ball. They advised me on ALL the things that can go wrong with Cerbs and took great delight in explaining it all. I left them feeling severely depressed.
Only joking, they were really friendly and helpful and gave me lots of tips on fixes etc. One started his car up for me and scared those behind it to bits. Attracted some attention too.
Also managed to find Trickie Dickie just as he was leaving so spoke with him but it seems the 2 Cerb owners in his area are reluctant to bring their cars out much.
I am stuck at the moment due to ACT not sending my new manifolds. Ordered and paid for on the 17th August and despite promises they are still not here. Spoken with Tim who assures me they will be with me tomorrow (Sept 12th) so we shall see. He responds promptly to emails as said in the recent thread but I cannot find a way to fit emails to the engine. So frustrating as I desperately need to get the car MoT'd soon as possible.

Yes ACT can be a little slow but I'm sure it will be the dogs balls when it arrives. I was unable to go to CiTP due to work commitments and unless I can survive on three hours sleep it maybe the same for Blackpool.

If you prefer a weekend meet then you could try Staffs/ Shrops gang (2nd sunday of the month) - the RO owns a cerb and a number of others attend. Alternatively the North Wales gang meet 3rd Sunday of each month at Ruthin Castle - normally a couple of cerbs around too. Both friendly bunches, we'e in south cheshire so handy for both
