As some here know, Im fairly new on the driving scene. In my mind, if one 'raced' another car, either to shake or get past a driver that was perhaps annoying or playing games, turning your head and actually looking over at your competition in an act of glee was a childish/dead end game of "Im better than you" Dunno, I always expect chav faces, and dont usually look at whose trying to rip past.
Tonight, I found a subaru glued to my back bumper for the best part of a few miles. Being dark, the glaring lights were not welcome, and upon reaching a roundabout I decided to give it some proper welly, through first, second, and third. I saw him trying to keep up, was somewhat relieved when I left him behind. End of encounter as far as I was concerned.

When he caught up, I didnt look, but my girlfriend saw him turned to us, smiling a genuine ear to ear 'nice one' smile, along with 'well done mate' gestures, thumbs up etc.

I posted here for two reasons. Part of me felt that racing on public roads and looking over at the competition was childish, I never expected other drivers to show respect. The incident reminded me of a few PH threads - drivers giving other drivers the thumbs up, for good performance or whatever.
People say precat stainless sports pipes will attract bumper riders, but am I alone in feeling anyone that wants to race is a chav, and will probably give me the finger if/when he goes by.
All in all, was left with a very positive vibe indeed. Not only will TVR's thrash Subaru's, but there are some really decent folk out there too
PS... whats the 0-60 time on your average subaru anyway, and do other TIV owners also find the Subaru's like to play? (is it possible to generalise, do any kinds of car in particular either race, or give respect more than others)?

Last month I was out in the peak district, going bouldering, and I realised a Noble was following. We had a great drive. It was much more both enjoying the cars than racing though with lots of space to the other few cars bimbling about. I never felt I was particularly loosing him (and wouldn't have been able to if I'd wanted).
When he turned off we both were sitting there with stoopid grins on our faces and gave a big wave. Felt like we were both of the same opinion.

A few weeks ago I went to Cornwall. On the journey back on the A30 I was bumbling along minding my own business doing (ahem) 70 in the slow lane when a Poogo 206/304/999 whatever it was drew up beside me in the fast lane. 4 chavs in it. no thyumbs up or nuffink like that. They then sped off and slowed down a few hundred yards ahead of me. I carried on at 70 and overtook them, pulling back into the slow lane. They duely sped up along side, over took and slowed down. This carried on for about 15 minutes until I decided enough was enough and pressed the loud pedal...

Usually I just conceed and let them get on with it, as far as I'm conceerned they can brag to all their mates about how the beat a TVR. The other breed is that of you overtaking them, or flashing them when they are doing 50 in the outside lane. I usually have a quick glance. Coming down the coast road yesterday behind a modded 316 Ti, gave him a flash to make him move, when I went past him + passenger giving it big grins etc.
I don't have the time or budget to play with idiots on the road who want to harrass me just to feed their egos. It's also dangerous, but I will use the power to get away from idiots. Also the V6 isn't that fast really, there are plenty of hot hatches that will eat it for breakfast. Not the same for the V8.

You're right there - especially if they think you've got the better of them! They might see it as a threat to their so-called macho image and go OTT in order to prove something to themselves
Having said that, I've had a few friendly "races" with some Porsche guys - nothing extreme I hasten to add. I'm not about to endanger myself or other road users but it's fun to come across like-minded people with an appreciation for sports cars!
Spirited driving (not racing) with other nice cars is great fun. I like to indicate left (when its safe) to let them past so I can hear what theirs sounds like in anger.
In my experience nearly all far-eastern cars want to have some fun - scoobies, hondas, evo's, nissans etc. Also had some good drives with masers, 355's, and RS4/6's (man, can RS4's corner fast!). I've never once met a Porsche who wanted to go quick though.

0-60's not really a true comparison between 2wd and 4wd IMO, best to look at in gear accln times. They are quite quick in that respect, but unmodified would not trouble the V8S on a rolling start drag race.
Some Subaru drivers are not too clever IMO either some arse passed me on the inside while turning right at a roundabout the other day. I suppose it may have been stolen.

Its cool to hear about positive spirited play with others. I always expect that if I did look over at any car that was toying with me, Id likely see a pack of wild burberry-besmothered chavs, gobbling down McDonalds, pointing and licking their windows, stereo pumping out choons sounding like a heard of dying animals - Im afraid what I'll see if I look
Thumbs up to the Subaru driver for keeping driving fun
Had a rover 214i chav, handbrake turn in front of me yesterday, i suppose just to prove his h/brake works.
It was a little tense, due to the fact we were both doing 40 ish, the good lady was driving her S on her second day of ownership.
She asked me if it was usual !!!????

Since a few rather frightening episodes I have given up on any "play" with drivers of other performance cars - unless I know them personally and their capabilties.
There are many PHers I've been on convoy drives with who have shown superb driving skills and are very happy to play sensibly with due regard for safety.
The problem with doing anything at all in the very slightest to "goad" an aggressive driver - e.g. by using hard acceleration - is that you have no idea how they'll react. You might get a thumbs up. You might get run into and killed...as they drive in a reckless manner determined to overtake you despite traffic conditions.
And sure - in a performance car you may be able to get away. Chances are, due to traffic, you won't be able to.
Why take the risk?

Lighten up Don! Most people I've had a blast with are pretty responsible. If someone starts driving too recklessly and it becomes a race all you have to do is slow down and let them past. That way you might have lost the battle but at least you'll survive the war.

I know, I know. But genuinely I've had a couple of frightening incidents where because I used the loud pedal (and drive a bright red Porsche) a driver "took offence" and, egged on by a bunch of "mates" in the back, drove like a loon.
What was frightening was that I <i>did</i> slow down - and this bloke didn't just shoot off into the distance...
I know there's a huge difference between some high spirited and friendly "sport" and "road rage" - but I wouldn't want engaging in the former to lead to the latter...and I'm not prepared to risk it anymore.
No offence to anyone intended, BTW.

Happen to me back in 1988. I didn't get to top speed as the
