I have a Tuscan S and was wondering if those those cheap cats you can buy online are good enough for MOT purposes? Obviously need to ensure I get the 57mm ones for the S exhaust.

Anyone got any experience with this?

Just bought 2 cheap ones at £64 each online so if manifolds come this week, then I'll know how good/bad they are.
Suspect for occasional use i.e. MoTs then probably ok but for permanent use I would be doubtful they will last. But, you never know.

I guess they are not 'Type approved' so officially not 'suitable' for newer cars if they were to check on the MOT.

Hi Iain, could you let me know which online site you got your cats from.
Regards Ken.

My experience is they suppress noise and their value ends there.

We tried cheap ones 3 years ago for the Tuscan S.
All started, that the cats didn´t fit although we delivered the measures.
The first cat started to dissolve immediately. Already after 50 miles the Tuscan was very low on power, because the dissolving cats blocked the exhaust system.
We were very glad that no harm was done to the engine.

Got a set of TVR Power Sport cats in the Workshop, will fit Tuscan S and Sagaris or any other TVR Speed Six big bore exhaust. They covered only about 1000 miles before the owner went for a LS conversion. They were bought at Power in May 2010 for a total of 845,98, got the invoice.
Open to offers.

All the best,
Björn.

The ones I got have a large sticker on them which states:

"illegal to supply for type-approved vehicles first used on or after 1/3/01"

So okay for my old 1996 banger.

I got mine from this company but have not yet fitted them so cannot say if they work.

I've got a pair of cheapies from ebay that have got me through the last couple of MOTs. There were type approved versions available as well for about 30 quid more last time I looked.

I don't leave them in any longer than needed though as I wouldn't exactly describe the internals as robust.

I bought eBay type approved ones for my Cerbera (ok, a V8 one but same dilema) for about £150/pair earlier this year. They got it through it's MOT although it took a bit of fettling to get through the emissions test. They'll do for that purpose. They physically fitted ok.
