Offord Motor Company - Any Dealings??
Discussion
Afternoon,
Just wandering if any you guys have had any dealings with Offord, particularly in respect of purchasing? I'm looking to purchase a Chimeara or Cerb, probably sometime early in the new year and want to know if their cars/prices are reasonable.
Is their service good or are they likely to just try and sell me the first car I see? I ask as their the closest inde to where I live in St. Neots.
Cheers
tony

Sorry Tony, never dealt with them myself, but I know that we are not allowed to go 'putting down' traders on this website.
Having said that a number of people have spoke of a decent service from these people, but really for prices all you can do is shop and compare.
I understand that a couple of individuals will source and pro' inspect a TVR for you if that helps.
Not very helpful I'm afraid but good luck in your search.

I have my Chim serviced at Simons, and all of our other cars. The work is always superb, they never do anything without first discussing it with me and they are the most helpful company around, their servicing bills are very reasonable and if I was going to buy a TVR from a dealer it would be from him. We were going to sell the chim this year and I was toying with getting a S3 and despite me mithering over what to do Simon was always willing to discuss every avenue regardless of whether I actually bought from him or not. He and his staff are always very reliable and will give an honest opinion.
Afraid my 'personal' opinion would differ to the other posts on here and in view of that would always recommend buying a specialist car from an Authorised Dealer! In the event that you did experience problems TVR can have some input but unless they are an Authorised Dealer you are on your own!
had my chim serviced there, and repaired after I...ahem...rolled it down my drive and into my garage pillar (d'oh!). They always did an excellent job.
Also bought my Griff there - fine car, and serviced it for me too.
Have also bought a family Saab from there. Never had a problem, and it's done 130,000 miles.
Good guys in general.

I disagree, other than if you are buying a car under manufacturers warranty. being an official dealer does not always guarantee competence.
(Many years ago, the workshop manager of Chariots Porsche in St.Albans admitted to me that if they had problems with an older 911, they took it to Autofarm....)
I never bought my car there but I have used them for a lot of work and they have been excellent. I have not heard of a bad report about Offord, they seem very honest and I would highly reccommend them.
I live in St Neots too, not far from Mr Sheen above, so if you want to pick my brains about Tivs or Offords send me a mail and we can have a beer or go for a blast.
Anyone else notice the only negative comments, from SmileyMonday, are from a recent member with this being his only post
could this be an authorised TVR main dealer in the area
hmmmm

Thanks for all your comments, really is hard knowing what a dealer (especially an indie) is like without first hand experience. I'll be looking to purchase my first Tiv in Feb/March next year, just waiting to see what my work bonus will be like as it'll be my deposit.
V8Smith, thanks for the offer of beer and a chat etc, something I may well take you up on. Give me someone to talk to about TVRs rather than boring my girlfriend rigid each night in my pre-purchase excitement. Your V8 looks mint though, think I may have heard/seen you cruising round town in the past.

I think I can speak with a little authority here, I have recently bought a cerbera from offords and found the total experiance very enjoyable and far superior to that of my previous purchase from a " authorised " dealer, the team made me feel special and the friendly curtious service is second to none.
I am aware that it may be a little early to be singing there praises but so far I am very happy.

I don't know how it works with their TVR sales, but the Saab 9-5 I got from them was warrantied by themselves, so the couple of minor problems I had were fixed without question and without having to worry about Warranty Holdings (or similar) making a decision. I had the usual Saab failure of the Direct Ignition unit failing, I expect other garages would chunter about wear'n'tear but the Offord boys had me sorted with a new unit fitted within 5mins of unloading the RAC truck.

No problem, my car has changed somewhat since my profile pic, and now has a Magnolia trim including roll bar, so I am easy to spot. If the weather is good there is an East Anglia Meet near Huntingdon on Sunday morning for a blast to Duxford if you are interested?
Later
Mike
