Rosso Pearl or Red Glow Pearl?

I'm just in the process of getting quotes to respray my Chim 450 due to the large quntity of stone chips and small scratches. I phoned the factory to confirm the actual colour of my car and they tell me it is Rosso Pearl. Apparently, they tell me, this colour is very problematic when it comes to re-touching and respraying and TVR have advised me to go for Red Glow Pearl instead due to its better colour stability. Does anybody know if there is much of a shade difference between the two paints as I really do like the Rosso.

Any other comments regarding the colours would also be welcome.

I think that Simone (tvrcc chairman) has just had his Cerbie re-sprayed in Red Glow Pearl his was also originally Rosso red. I think it was also being re-sprayed by Dream Machines in Heathfield. They also may be able to advise on compatibility etc.

I do know that the Rosso series of paints had a tendency to fade in sunlight IIRC.

We originally had rosso pearl on our T350, but had it resprayed in the rosso glow. There is a difference but the majority of people wouldn't notice.

Does anybody have a Red Glow Pearl car in the North wWest that I could see "in the flesh", just to compare?

Lisa, you say rosso glow. Is that another name for red glow or is that another different shade.

Hi,

My Chimaera was re-done in the red glow pearl, see profile for pic. I think the colour is great, and appears somewhat different depending on light etc. Mrs. Fish more or less talked me into it, and I'm very glad she did. Far less problematic, and have many favourable comments on the colour. Will be far easier (and cheaper) to match in the inevitable stone chips etc.

Red Glow Pearl looks as similar as a similar thing to the old Cherry Pearl in the flesh - see either my profile or the 'Podie Learns to Play Golf' thread for pics - that should give you an idea at least.

Looking into this at the moment. Seems there are two different types of Rosso Pearl. One is made by ICI the other by a French company called RM? although they look the same.

Both types are on TVRs early have ICI later RM(?). It seems that the ICI is possible to match but the RM is almost impossibe, I have the ICI stuff. PHEW!

We've also got a Griff in Rosso Pearl that you can compare it with.

Could explain a few things.

Everyone says Rosso Pearl goes pink after a time, mine's 7 years old and looks fine. Could it be that I have the early (ICI) paint, which is less problematic?

To try to clarify;

Rosso Pearl had about five different versions. All were to varying degrees unstable due to the high levels of a certain pigment in them. This means over a period of time the pigment fades and because it has to be sprayed on fairly thickly for the pearl effect you can't easily blow colour in. End result is unless the bodyshop is staffed by gods it's normaly a full respray for most dings.

Rosso Glow uses a different pigment and is a much more stable colour, well for red anyway. This should be an easier colour to blend if there is a smash.

Please note no reds are easy to match spray and all reds fade with time. Personally having owned both the Rosso Pearl IV colour is the nicest less orangy than the earlier ones and alot of depth. Rosso Glow on it's own looks lovely but put it next to a Rosso Pearl car and you'll see the difference.

Splat! Head explodes. Although the red glow looks great on the Tuscans and T350, I'm not sure how its going to look on my Chim. There seems to be a browny tint to it ( or is just my crap eye sight ). I think I'm going to have to do somemore research before I make my mind up.
