Think this chap had one for sale a little while back, may have sold it by now?

Time to update this thread, as I've solved the problem now and learned a few things in the process that may help other S owners.
There were 2 problems with the rack. the first was that the nylon bush that locates the rack inside the housing on the right hand side was worn. the second (less obvious one) was that the hole in the housing into which the bush fits was also worn. It looks as though the worn bush was wobbling about inside the housing as the rack moved and this created the wear in the housing. You could feel play in the rack where the track rod entered the housing - not in the track rod end itself. This had happened after 70,000 miles on the clock and was hard to find, as you normally check the track rod ends for play - not the point where the track rod fits into the housing so it's easily missed
Solution was to machine out the hole in the housing - just 1 mm was enough, and to get a local firm that specialises in engineered plastics to make up an identical bush, oversized by 1 mm. Fits perfectly - problem solved
All this was done in New Zealand, where I live, so the contacts are not likely to be much use to Poms (sorry - Brits!) unless you need an oversized bush made up and can't find one in the UK. However, what I also learned is that David Gerald TVR can supply standard sized bushes for an S2 steering rack in the UK and Pete at Kiley Clinton (kileyclinton@btconnect.com) might also be able to help.
S2 back on the road now. Been fully restored, so looks brand new. Also has fully rebuilt Cosworth engine (at quite some cost, I can tell you!) so really didn't need a wobbly steering rack!
