TVR Website Forums
Discussion
I've just been having a look around the TVR Club website and in particular the forums; and what's apparent is the lack of content and use of these areas...is it because the TVR club police use draconian measures to limit content or is it that the TVR club is similar to the MG club....sort of full of old farts that don't know one of a pc to at tin of beans and would rather wear their slippers smoke a pipe meet at club meets and talk about the good ole days when TVRs were TVRs and PHers are the rebel force that's broken away from the empire?

Probably the main reason is that most forum using TVR owners are here and don't see a need to use the club ones.
Also depends on the region. Some regional forums are very heavily used and some are not.
Most H&B people for example use here.
Most ME people use club forums.
If people have something they use a lot and like, they don't really change what they do.
I've very rarely seen (if ever) the club moderators go police mode. They do that more here.
Not saying it doesn't happen very occasionally, but it would be very occasionally.

I do find the fact the some regions don't use the club forums really annoying.
If I'd just joined the club and lived in certain areas I could quite easily come to the conclusion the region was dead
I find the club forums really useful for events, PH is better for quick response to techie questions though.
I've never had any problems with the club forums logging me out, in fact I can't remember the last time I had to enter my password.
Buzz, I see you post a little on the club forums (but not much) so what's missing for you and why don't you post there ?
I agree there are a lot of posts here on PH but you do kinda get bored of the same questions all the time.

For obtaining technical help and information PH is second to none.If you want to be involved closely with what's going on in the TVRCC then their forums are a good place to use but I find as in a lot of car clubs it's very 'cliquey'......and if you want to be involved then you have to be part of the clique.

PH pre-dates TVRCC forums by a long way (especially as it was started by a TVR enthusiast) and was very well established as the "font" long before the club got on to the web.esso said:

That's the nature of one-make car clubs, but IMHO the TVRCC is better than most in this respect.A few years ago I bought an MGBGT V8, factory built car, it was my third BGT but the first V8. When I started asking on the MGOC forums about modifying the engine I was told in no uncertain terms that I shouldn't have bought the car, it has to remain original, and I was clearly the kind of person that should have bought a TVR not a classic MG.
Turns out they were right

They would really, really LOVE me then Turns out they were right

Maybe I should buy one... Been thinking about getting another classic...
It seems that all TVR forums are not what they once were, TBH. This is very noticeable to me, after coming back into TVR ownership after almost 7 years. All the TVR related forums were always very busy and vibrant from when I joined in 2002 to 2007, when I sold the car. there were posts every few minutes, now, perhaps a post a day sometimes
The forums are like virtual ghost towns now, by comparison. I would imagine that if they're this quiet (relatively) on PH, then the 'lesser' forums will be 'deserts' of inactivity...
For me, it's quite sad seeing the old hustle and bustle fade - but I guess, inevitable since TVR are no more

One of the main reasons I ask is that I've been a member of the WSCC (Westfield Sports Car Club..I own a Westfield SEiGHT 4.6i TVR V8)since 1999 it's a brilliant active club with a thriving club website which has great banter, quality technical area etc similar in set up to the TVR Club along with very active regional areas and club mags it's such a chalk & cheese set between the two clubs regarding the club sites.
I've got to say I tend to go to the WSCC Yorkshire meets rather than the TVR W.Yorks altho' Tricky runs a great TVR area

Exactly the same as me. I actually did not re-join the TVRCC a few years ago because little or nothing was going on in my local region so I went off and done my own thing for a few years with like minded people and really enjoyed myself, then someone asked me to re-join the TVRCC and help them to try and get the region back to how it use to be my god what a mistake that was talk about peoples egos is not the word, I nearly left again and went back to what I enjoy driving the cars but things have slightly changed and there are a few events I,am going to next year with a TVRCC region so things are looking up

As far as I can tell only members can see and post in the forums, how many members are there? Considering that most TVR owners who would actively post on a forum are likely to be members on here, and these forums are just about ticking over, I had already guessed that the club forums were quiet without being able to see in there.
Back in my Ford days the old RSOC forums were quiet even though they were free and had thousands of members because everyone would be posting on Passionford instead, the fact that you have to stump up £50 to see the TVRCC forms is probably its second biggest killer after PH.
