On a recent track day I noticed Chilli was in need of some tuition........whistle

So being a good sort I offered to source some! Anyone got any recommendations on where we, sorry he, can learn to drive his car on the track?

I'm off to Millbrook Driver Training Centre next year for the day to get a better understanding of the car. After that, you simply can't beat track time from what my friends who go on track say. Go round with an instructor as well until you feel your confidence levels improve smile

you both know phased on here I'm sure.He is very experienced with track driving and It hurts to say it, pretty quick. Buy him a few espresso's and he would I'm sure point you in the right direction to start with after that it starts getting expensive ,budget for around £550-650 for a one on one day with Ards instructor. If you weren't shy of airfield trackdays, contact Ed Moore or Natasha @ Motorsport events they do instruction for £20 a session I believe and they are very o-faye with TVR

WHAT??????? That's outrageous furious I have never been so insulted in all my life whistle

I am so shocked I can't even come up with a witty comeback.

Unbelievable.

I'll be back when I'm less upset.

I have been on three track days with Peter and all I have learnt off him so far is that he is much quicker than me through the twistiesrolleyes A few laps with him next time is a good shout. I have emailed Motorsport events to see if I can get a small group deal going.

For my money it's:
1. Solve the oil issue
2. Solve the brake judder issue
3. Consider investing in a second set of wheels with track tyres (or borrow mine to feel the difference and convince yourself you need them).
4. Track day early 2014, taking a tuition session again
5. Nine more 2014 track days, including tuition sessions if you feel you need them.

After all Chilli is a driving God with plenty of experience in other vehicles. bow

Right, I've had time now to calm down.. and a big thanks to QBee for his understanding and belief in my extraordinary driving skills whistle

Me and beastie only need two things to improve on our last outing, sort the brakes out, and fit a seat that we fit in without sliding around all over the place smile OK, sticky tyres would help, but I'd like to follow Phazed round first and just see if he really is that much quicker wink (gauntlet thrown down Peter wink )

As for rosey and his 5.2 litre Griff, I say bring it on biggrin an extra 200cc compared to my RR built super engine, MS suspension set up, and my superior driving skills simply won't cut it... Apart from which, even folk in darkest Africa know Chims are quicker than Griffs wink

Ian, PM me mate if you find a good instructor wink

The best 20 minutes I ever spent on a track was with Mike Caine at Castle Combe, he could almost drive the car from the passenger seat, in fact he pretty much did. If you get the opportunity at a track anytime ( maybe at a TVR trackday) take some instruction from him. Driving god and bloody nice chap, many reasons to dislike him!

It's the fear of damaging you're baby that half the problem for most people IMO

Once you grow a pair and realise it's just a car the fun starts

Er, actually Perry I'm a bit of a novice, me and beastie have done one track day. Well half a track day actually frown I'm sure I'll be nowhere near Peter, or you 5.2 Griff boys.... or QBee... or probably anyone else for that matter.

Based on my one experience I'd say the more the merrier, although I only lasted the morning, the atmosphere and company were brilliant biggrin

Sounds like we have a great track day coming up early in 2014. Bring it on!!!

Chilli, I agree you need to sort your brake judder issue. Seat, yes, I found myself bracing in the corners with my legs, which does make car control more difficult. Mrs Bee is buying me a set of harnesses for Christmas. Hopefully they will end up in te car.eek As I have a roll cage I have somewhere to fix them behind the seats.

But for me the biggest difference to my cornering grip and thus speeds and, ultimately, track day enjoyment, came from getting my 888s. They enable you to trust the car in the corners almost regardless of the speed you chuck it in there. Yes, you can still spin, but not for simple lack of adhesion.

If you come to the next one on road tyres you will be going out for a session on my tyres. Then you will see the difference.
