As per the title really - if you have ported RV8 heads, will the OEM exhaust gaskets be large enough, or will they intrude into the opened-up port diameter..? (effectively re-blocking that lovely port you have just had opened-up)

Will I need the larger aftermarket style (eg. the "mica" ones in the Classifieds), or will the OEM Rover (OEM TVR?) ones do..?

What do the 430/500 heads use..?

Thanks,

Dom

You need ones for ported heads not standard oe ones. There are usually some on ebay and in the classifieds , both good quality.

If you have the manifolds off. Worth opening the manifolds up to match the heads as they are usually too small which does nothing for flow.

Yes, they are the ones i have at the minute as well.

These or the ones in the classifieds will do you fine.

yes
If you can open up the manifolds to be slightly bigger than the heads, gives a bit of a anti reversion step. Obviously gaskets need to be opened up to match manifolds not heads for it to work.

What would happen to an OE gasket used on a ported head..?

Would the exposed gasket burn away, or would it sit there permanently narrowing the cross-sectional area and creating a bottleneck without burning away?

Thanks,

Dom

Not experienced it first hand Dom, I'm sure you've seen it though, what happened.

My guess, assuming its a metal gasket, is it would be and remain a restriction.

No, no idea unfortunately - just trying to work out whether (if I have an OE gasket installed) it would have:

- burnt away to match the port (in which case I don't have to replace with larger item)
- remained intact (in which case I would change for larger item)

In that case I'd just bite the bullet and put the bigger bore gaskets on, not a difficult task afaik.
