Griffith or Chimaera?

I am looking to buy myself a TVR soon as a second car. From what I understand, both cars cost the same new, yet there seem to be loads more Chimaeras for sale than Griffs. Is there a reason for this? My budget is limited to about £12-13k. For that money am I to expect trouble or should I be able to source a well sorted car? I am mechanically aware but don't have the time to DIY.

This is an often-asked question and one on which you will find reams if you search the archives.
My views are:
1) Yes, you can get a decent one for that money if you do your homework and don't buy a lemon.
2) Don't worry that it's 'only' 4.0; that will be plenty for starters
3) Effectively both models are the same under the skin, so buy the one you like the look of best. There are about 4 Chimaeras to every Griff, so you'll pay more for the latter. (But you'll get a design classic not a golf cart

Buy a Chimaera - that'll be £12-13k well spent and you'll still have enough spare cash to accessorize with a new set of golf clubs...

One car one a design award
The other car one "Editors wifes choice award" in Golf-Caddy Magazine.
(But either are better than all other TVRs so you are at least on the right track

Chimaera is more slightly more practical (bigger boot); Griffith is slightly more exclusive (ok, there are a lot more chimps than griffs, but any TVR is still pretty exclusive).
Looks are down to individual taste, anyway. Personally, I prefer the front end of the Griffith, but the rear end of the Chimaera...it'd look a bugger if you tried to mix the two on the same car, though!
Under the skin, they are pretty similar.
Buy whichever your like the look of most!

Thanks guys, didn't mean to start a fight! I hate golf and I like the look of both cars. If it was a straight choice I think I would go for the Griff but as funds are limited and based on what you have said, I think I should just keep an open mind and buy the best example of either car I can find. Cheers.
