Hi all

I've just arranged to buy my first TVR (an S Series). I want to get a full cover for it, but am wary of buying a cheap one as I don't want to search the paint etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Or anything to be aware of when looking for covers?

All help is appreciated.

I've got a Leven half cover for the summer when the car is used a lot. It takes a minute to put on and off and just covers the roof so won't scratch the paintwork but keeps the car nice and dry where it has potential for leaking.

In the winter when the car isn't used as much I use an outdoor carcoon. It is a bit of a pain to take the car in and out (10 minute job) but keeps the car in excellent condition and again doesn't touch the paintwork (when inflated)

Best of luck

I've got one of these. Size 4.

Perfect if, like me, wifey uses the garage for household bits and bobs.

Get a Carcoon or Leven hood cover. After learning the hard way even with really expensive outdoor covers I won't be using one again. All the full car covers have scratched paintwork. Even if you wash the car before you put it on, you will still get dust and debris blowing up under the cover then grinding against your paintwork. I'm a big fan of the Leven hood covers they don't touch the paint work and keep the interior and hood dry.

Seems like a good consensus then, even if a bit more money than I originally budgeted for!

These carcoons, how robust are they? I understand they keep the car dry etc, but what about in high winds and the like? Would they not just allow the sides to blow into the car and possibly scratch it like that?

My wonderful Wife bought me the outdoor Carcoon for Christmas.
I put my Tuscan to bed three weeks ago and set off for the States.
This week my Wife called to say it has deflated and so now I have a big cover blowing about all over my car frown and I'm not back for another 2 weeks weeping

If I was local I would offer to help check the electrics (because that's the only reason it's flat as the fans won't be blowing).

I'm in gloucestrshire though so dpfar away from Cheshire. I'm sure someone on the local forum could help.

Best of luck.

Thanks portzi and A900ss.
My Wife has checked and tells me that the fans are not running and that the charger light is on green but that there is a red light on as well ???
I dont have the Carcoon info with me and to be honest its not very informative anyway.
I should have called them today but was tied up in meetings.

I think I'll call Ian at TorqueRVT in the morning.

(Don't want to steel this thread)
Thanks again,
Tony.

Has the cable from the charger to the fans fallen out? It shouldn't but if power is getting to the charger but not the fans, that' she obvious place to start looking.

Good luck.

My chim has lived under one of these for 7 years http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/acatalog/OutdoorC... , paint still looks fine to me.

I am on my 3rd one though - first one I forgot to do up the straps and it ended up gift wrapping a tree. Second one lasted about 4 years but got very manky so I have just replaced it with a nice new clean one :-)

Soft fleece lining and tie down straps.

ETA: Thats an outdoor cover, you didnt say if it was outdoor or indoor, if indoor then you will probably want something different

I'll ask her to check in the morning.
It's certainly been windy enough to maybe shake it ?
Thanks

I have been using the Hamilton outdoor cover for over a year now:-

http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/acatalog/OutdoorC...

This protects my Lotus, no micro blisters. Very impressed actually, especially with all the wind and rain over the last few weeks.

I do ensure my cars are properly cleaned, polished, sealed and waxed. This probably helps stop any abrasive effects to the paint.

I've tried all sorts of covers over the years and have had trouble with all of them..
When I had a dry garage I found a few sheets over the car was best as it allowed the car to breath...

Last year I tried an outside waterproof breathable one and with the high winds I was constantly having to put the thing back on the car plus I found that it would sweat or water would still get underneath the cover plus of course the problems associated with scratching..

My car is now outside and I now just buy a good quality wax which I know I can leave on the bodywork which will rub off ok and plaster that over the car then wash it down and remove when I use the car 6 months later and it works for me and the car still looks new at 22 years old..

After seeing how a car cover rotted my friends Sunbeam lotus out due to sweating I won't use one again..

Keep the car in a shaded area where it can't get affected by tree sap or bird poo and it will be fine...

I should have said, this will be an outside cover.

In one sense, I quite like the sound of a carcoon kind of affair. My concern is how it would fair in weather like we've just been enjoying.

Plus, I don't live in a particularly dodgy area, but a large balloon on the drive might be a bit too much of a temptation for some passing oik to leave be...!

My carcoon has stood up fine in this windy weather.

I put socks over the wing mirrors in case they do touch the inside of the carcoon (not sure if they do or not).

If you get heavy snow it can flatten the carcoon on the car until you brush it off.

I wouldn't consider this as an option if you are using the car daily as it is 10 minutes to get it out and another 10 minutes to set it up putting it back. It works for me over winter though as I use the car a lot less than summer.

Best of luck.
