I don't think there is that much to choice between the various units, they are all at a very similar price point, and all do pretty much the same thing, so it's really down to which one you like the look of

I dont want points because of the potential ban. True, financially if you get the odd ticket here and there and are, on the whole, sensible(ish) when you choose to speed, you would be better off sticking the money in an account and using it to pay the fines when they arrive. However, for the time I do push the limits a fair bit, I dont want to have to wave goodbye to my licence as it would make my job very difficult indeed.

The GPS + Detector units are way better than the detector only units.
The main problem with the latter are all the false alarms + they don't pick up the head on type of camera. The fact that it cry's wolf so often tends to degrade it's impact. Also the detection range is very variable, ranging from loads to Oh S**t!.
Still it's alerted me to Gatso's I hadn't noticed a couple of times so it's not all bad.

You are going so fast on that launch your number plate is all blurred - no wonder you need a speed detector. I've alway found the further south you go the less you will get zapped - Scotland Edinburgh to Aberdeen - so many fines it was stupid - long before detectors.
Been down south 8 year one camera related offence. Maybe getting slower as I get older. Or saveing it up for when it is Really needed!

Got a RoadAngel too. Fantastic things.
One thing to bear in mind about putting money in bank accounts for fines, a bank account can't pay for the points to be removed, or for your insurance premium hike (though dpenends on how many). It can however pay for taxis and trains when you get banned.
Personally I'll keep the RA. Got it on eBay, brand new and sealed for £230. RRP is £400. Sweet.

very funny the point re the blurred plate. brilliant.
so you have been fortunate enough to escape speeding taxes. That may not be the case for others. Its a sad reflection on the politics of road traffic policing that many of my parents friends that generally drive like they are driving miss daisy have points on their licence. If its at a higher speed it can be goodbye licence or even more and more points until insurance increases etc. Besides, I would rather pay £5000 to the detector manufacturers than £60 to the thieving arseholes in government.
I've got the Origin B2 and its great. I read all the review threads prior to purchase and it was a toss up between the B2 and the Road Angel.
I ended picking the B2 as its features were slightly better and its much more subtle. I don't think I've ever had any false alarms. Apart from the odd temp motorway traffic works camera that had been removed, but better safe than sorry.
It comes with the laser unit as standard and you can add the radar unit. The system obviously isn't fool proof as you need a direct hit of a laser on the detector for it to work, and by that stage it may be to late. But lets face it that’s the way all the other detectors on the market work anyway. A combination of good lookout for cars and not taking the p@#s have kept me out of trouble. And the database adds that backup when your mind is else where and you find yourself doing 34 in a 30. (Obviously a gross criminal offence)

how did you get caught?fixed camera or those t***ts the unsafe camera crash causers with there laser guns?
the road angel is good for the fixed cameras but since they were made reflective flourescent yellow you should really be able to see those for yourselves however the laser guns are the real problem do you know they pick your speed up and photograph you in under 1/10th of a second the laser detectors are useless by the time you react you are already done get a target lt400 very useful saved me from points 4 times lately most recently as i passed a speed trap in the dark!!!!! dont know why but didnt realise they could see in the dark with no flash

Until recently I have been using a Road Angel GPS driven device with a lazer for mobiles and had good results.
However got fed up with a dash full of add ons for camera detection and Sat Nav.
Have now got a one box solution, except lazer.Much easier to transfer car to car.
Bought a new Tom Tom GO sat nav box, see www.tomtom.com/index.php?
New software allows you to download Points Of Interest (POIs)
Many sets are available on the www on of these being Saftey Cams, see www.pocketgps.co.uk/
Audible alerts can be defined for these POIs so you can set up warnings in advance, same as GPS driven detectors.
There are loads of different databases about from motor racing circuits and TVR dealerships to Mcdonalds.
At present the locations seem well up to date,two very new cameras in Leicester being on the data set.
Now just one box on the dash with sat nav and gps cameras positions for between £350 £400

Only the areas with scamera partnerships that have subscribed to the cash for cameras have to paint them to make them visible. Also while all new cameras need to be visible they were only advised to make old ones so, so you can still find them lurking behind trees and signposts etc.
Or like in our area, they break the spirit (although not the word) of the new rules and hide them around corners

Hear Hear... and not forgetting that you can add on an LRC 100....to open those garage doors
The new road angel is big, bulky, but otherwise perfect in ever respect. The upside is it can easily/ quickly be transferred from car to car on weekends (a bonus for you praps)
