Who's done the Nurburgring in a TVR?

On slightly related note I've seen a Boxster vs Chimaera at the 'Ring vid (shot from the Porsches passenger seat) once. The TVR held its own (the Porsche driver commenting on the fantastic sound it made accelerating out of bends) and let the Porker by at the straight just before the bridge. Very cool.

I think the Tiv driver made his point, having held off a car considered to be vastly superior in the handling stakes for a full lap. Everyone knows in a straight line the Boxster would be toast anyways.
That, or he just let off the throttle, relieved to still be alive!

No problem Nubbin. I hope to do a few laps at an observational rate to allow a couple of people who want to drive the circuit the chance to follow someone. I don't intend doing any quick laps on the Eurohoon visit.

It's in the mountains so go in the summer!
Brilliant place, and loads of petrolhead car spotting around too. Porsche 911s are sooo common there though - no disrespect, but they're almost boring.
I found the 'ring OK if you're driving at 7/10ths. Anything over this and you get too cocky and lose it. You saw how the Z3M took to the Armco on TG, it is sooo easy to do as there is no runoff.
I found there were 2 left handers where you had to really slow down, otherwise as long as you're at 7/10ths you'll get round OK. But if it's busy you'll spend more time moving over to let faster cars/bikes past and looking in the mirror means you lose concentration on the road ahead.
BTW - the Dorint Hotel which overlooks the racing circuit is only 50 Euros with an Internet booking if you pick the right time (undeground parking).
Oh, avoid the extra bumpy route from near Spa, horrid, horrid road. This route is described on the nurburgring.org website.

Been round in TVR Grantura Mk3, Vixen S2, 3000S, and a 5 litre Griff. Best time to go is in late July/ early August when the Oldtimer Festival in on. 3 days of racing and the Nordschleife is open in the late afternoon/ evening. Which car was best, the Granny, not the fastest but it felt it, very "involving".
By far the BEST way to experience the "Ring" is in the Ringtaxi driven by Sabine Schmitz (formerly Reck). She was the girl on Top Gear last night and has won the 24 Hour race at the Ring twice. The Ringtaxi is a BMW V8 engined M5 with brake and suspension mods and costs about 120 euros a lap, but 3 sharing (4 up) it works out to be the best experience (in a moving car ) per pound you can buy. It actually costs BMW almost 500 euros a lap because, following an accident a few years ago they replace the tyres every 10 laps, the brake pads every 20 laps and the suspension every 50 laps, and the car every year. Unfortunately you will need to book it about a year in advance!
After Top Gear last night had another look at the In Car Porsche 956 Video with Derek Bell lapping in 6 mins 41 secs and Jackie Icxx passed him and vanished out of sight on a "quick" qualifying lap. A good video if you are going to drive the Ring but it is MEGA dangerous.

Right, I'm looking at going for last week in July, Speedferries will still do a £50 return to France in peak season! How do I book to ride Sabine, sorry ride in, nope sorry, ride with Sabine? Been to her website, only a phone number....hang on - bonus!!
I'm tempted to drive down on the last Saturday in July and come back the following Friday for a cheeky break.

The number I have for her is +49 2691 302178. The BM has no cage, she thinks its not required. They also have a Zakspeed Viper if you really like changing your grundies but that is considerably more expensive. They do get cancellations, especially for some strange reason on rainy days.

When they said "Ride the ring" what exactly is it you had in mind?
