Rain X - yes or no

Just replaced the wipers and arms and the supplier recommends Rain X on the windscreen.

Pros: gives the wipers an easier time

Cons: apparently leaves a fine must for a fraction of a second when you use the wipers which some people hate. I've also read that its difficult to remove once on.

Thoughts and experiences please.

So are clear silicon rain products over the windscreen a good thing or a bad thing?

I have it on the TVR and on my daily. It works well on the TVR due to the poor wiper setup. I once drove 50 miles on the motorway in heavy rain without putting the wipers on at all just to prove a point.

Don't worry about removing it as in my experience it only lasts a few weeks.

Give it a try and see what you think.

This is the irritating thing!

I have used the stuff for years and find it really good. I wont buy it again though because of the association with BRAKE

I use RainX and was not worried who sponsored it but the last bottle I bought was before I knew and it lasts for ages. The anti mist version on the inside is a good as well.

But prepared to change if there is a good alternative. G Techniq you say?

I use the Dodo Juice variant and it's excellent. Much longer lasting than Rain-X, works brilliantly. It seems expensive but you only use a very small amount in each application.

I use the Rain X Glass Cleaner with water dispersal every wash and find it very good. Makes up for the poor wipers.

I found by accident and surprise that a shamy (spelling?) leather previously washed in TCP to kill the slime bugs and preserve it, wiped on the windscreen kept it clean of rain above 40mph. Unable to remember how it lasts. I always use a leather for a good windscreen clean and residues of TCP does no harm. Hope to do a trial with an untreated control, against Rain X shortly.

i personally like Rain X. . .it helps a lot on my Esprit. Applying it seems to be straight forward although i have not tried the inside with the anti fog. . .doing the inside windscreen is a right pain so may have to be in an extra good mood to try this !

Ventilation on mine is not very good and a rainy day will have me fighting the fogging, the rain x anti mist stuff works a treat but it attracts dust etc so need a good clean off regularly. But the trade off is you can see out on a damp day (read cats and dogs)
But then if you have the weather, lid off, not required.

What is BRAKE please?
I use rain-x in my Tuscan, but would consider another product if the makers of rain-x are associated with unethical companies.

Ive tried the Halfords equivelent- not something I recommend, it smears badly.

Another for gtechniq there stuff is great, not cheap but very good.

They do 2 windscreen ones, one is short life ie monthly like rain x the other requires more effort, you have to completely clean the screen with there stuff in pack then apply sealer but done correctly lasts upto 2 years.

There are acouple other brands, google nano coatings.
