Elise VS Tuscan

I am looking to buy a new car, and i really like both Elise and Tuscan. I know, very different cars, but each has something that attracts me.

So is there anybody who has owned/driven both cars and can give a back to back comparison based on his/her experience?

I've had both a Tuscan and an Elise Mk1 Sport160.

In summary the Tuscan was my everyday car, the Elise a weekend & track toy, that says it all really.

Well, I am going to use the car everyday (only during summer though). Thats about 50 miles a day. I also have a second car. I dont mind the repair bills, but I want a reliable car.

From what I've researched sofar, 111r is pretty solidly build and reliable. TVRs are getting way better as well. Apparently Tuscan mk2 is a huge improvement due to that russian guy.

What I like about Tuscan is exactly what James K said. However, I am worried about handling.

As for Elise, I am afraid it wont provide straight line thrills.

Have had both. Admittedly, the Elise was an S1, but it was bulletproof from a reliability & even "niggle" point of view.

Totally different kettle of fish to the Tuscan, though... The Tuscan is a proper car whereas the Elise was a "toy". The S2 is definitely a different proposition (more in the creature comfort stakes, etc). I can never see myself owning another one, though - you couldn't go away for a week in one. In fact, you'd be struggling at a long weekend. Could easily take the Tusc away for a couple of weeks.

The lack of straight line "poke" from the Elise is the other turn-off for me; in the S1 you got annoyed at 60. In the S2 I'm guessing you'll be annoyed with it's torque about 100.

Having said all that, the Elise WILL depreciate less over 3 years and cost you a whole heap less to begin with.

Edited to add: with Nitrons on the Tuscan, there's not THAT much in it when it comes to handling on day to day roads. The Elise would still murder it round the corners on a track, though (but would get slayed in a straight line).

Noticed that on another thread you say you're worried about the Tuscan's handling. When the car's set up right, with decent dampers & springs, it'll easily out-handle most "sports" cars in the same price bracket (traction control/ABS aside) - don't think for a second it's just some high-output car that can't corner, like most American tanks.

Agree with J_S_G. I had a Cerbera, and now have a 200bhp Elise S1. The TVR will *never* handle like the Elise... but the standard Elise is slow (in a straight line) if you come from a fastish car - what did you have before. The Elise will never sound as good. The Elise will be much less niggly and much more reliable IMHO. The Elise will cost FAR less to run and insure.

Why don't you test drive both?
