Aim to be heading to Rye from work in Manchester on Friday.
I will be setting off about 10 am so probably reach M25 between 1 and 2 pm.

Any advice on the easiest route?
My clutch is a pain in the neck/leg in stop start traffic!

I would use the route to the north of london I were travelling at that time, ( and I probably will be). The dartford bridge doesn't usually start gumming up until about 4pm. Also you could think about A14/M11, the A14 is dual carriageway from the M1 J19 to the M11.

Either route could be a pig. I'd opt for the M40/anti-clockwise M25 purely to avoid the potential for 2 mile+ queues at the Dartford Crossing. One small thing going wrong on that section and all hell breaks loose!

One possible alternative is M1/clockwise M25/M11/A12 thru Blackwall Tunnel/A2 to rejoin M25 at junction 2 and missing out Dartford Crossing.

I would be going anti-clockwise route on the basis that the m40 is a much faster motorway than the m1 in my experience.

clockwise on the M25 then take the M20 route coming off at the Ashford outlet exit and cutting through Brenzett and across the Romney marshes , do not even think about the A21 route

M40 is faster until you get to Heathrow then it normally just gets bunged up
M1 is normally moving even if it is slower it is steady

^^^^ yes This hehe Thing is they're probably all correct on different days. I used to do loads of travelling and it's just roulette as to whether there's accidents, other delays etc.

ETA My 2c would be to use the M40, anticlockwise M25.

Derek, I will almost certainly be heading through there about midday, if you like I'll PM you my mobile so you can ring for a heads up on any problems.

Andy you have mail. May be a typo, there should be a 6 and not a 5 in the email address

I find this website to be pretty useful;

http://www.londontraffic.org/

Has specific alerts for Dartford Crossing, M25, Blackwall Tunnel as well as generic London traffic. Has access to live traffic cameras which are v helpful.

Ironically, seems there's a "severe" warning in place atm between junction 1&3 on the M25 anti-clockwise due to earlier incident at Dartford! Having been stuck on the bridge for 2.5 hours during one accident clear-up, I just steer clear now!

Drive to Liverpool.
Catch the Mersey ferry
Hijack same.
Divert it to Rye.
Job's a goodun.

hehe

PS, I have had a remote servo (MGB type) inserted into my clutch setup - makes it a whole lot lighter. I too suffer from left foot problems.

Use M11/A14/A1/A57 and aim to arrive in Sheffield at about 8pm, then over the Snake. As long as it's not raining.

And now the right way round.......M62, A1, A14, M11, M25, QE Bridge etc. The A1 is a nice road, more interesting than most. I'd say call in at mine for coffee/lunch, but I will be at Curborough.....so:

Alternatively, M6, M6 Toll, A38, to Curborough (just north of Lichfield), spend an hour trying to beat the sprint times of the five TVRs on track (Chim 4.3, Griff 4.3, Chim 5.0, Chim 5.5, Tamora 6.3), then back on your route via the M6 Toll, M42, M40 etc etc.

Just an idea.. hehelick

M62 rather than the Snake? In an interesting car? The Snake is life-enhancing but can be lethal. And the noise! Don't forget to visit RT's in Sheffield, if only to wave, rev and then depart.

M62 is for diesel-trundling.

Their is a pretty good airport in Manchester with good connecting flights to Gatwick and Heathrow both of which have stations at the door with good connections to south coast..

Failing that M40, anticlockwise M25 every time from the western approaches..

Would a Chim fit in the overhead compartment?
Gonna need it in order to qualify for the Power Tour. Will aslo be quicker when drag racing.
