Value for Lucas ECU - original posting failed!
Discussion
Apologies for the further posts listed, but for some reason the system would not work last night!
Anyway...... I am looking to sell my Lucas ECU out of my pre serp M reg Griffith as I am about to have a brand new Canems unit installed, but before I do, I'm wondering what the going rate is for the old unit. If anybody can give me a realistic figure for a quick sale, I am all ears.
Many thanks Paul.

Hi Paul, I would personally consider holding onto it. You never if TVR do start making cars again then the old 'classic' ones could be worth something in the future, unlikely but you never know and it will be the standard ones that will command higher values. As you know mine has been sympathetically modified but I have kept all the old bits just in case I ever need to sell and the market prefers standard examples

Matthew, take your point, but I don't have any storage space! And not interested in keeping a pile of 'junk!' It's beginning to look like the currently market value is worth 50 sheets! Just looking forward to having a good Griff rather than a bad Griff!Incidentally, on a different note, trust you will join us for the biggest TVR traders show at Neil Garner's as once again we will hold the Open Day event, only this time, it will be a season closer rather than a season opener as the date has been set for Saturday Sept 27th at SN16 9SH. The usual Essex 'boys' have kindly offered to host the loud noise comp yet again for us.
Be there!
Look forward to seeing you there! Just what the other 'alf needs, a weekend in the Cotswolds - sorted!

Simple question Marz. Why a new Canems? What will it do that Lucas could not! Thanks. I'm still on a learning curve with mystery TVR electronics and determined not to be surprised! Thanks.
In a word........ 'Shunting!'Fed up with it! And the Canems system fitted by the Lloyd bros in nearby Warminster have promised and guaranteed to rid of all my low speed shunting problems. Some of the 500 Griffiths do and some don't! I can only describe mine at best, as a pig! But not any more after two weeks time! Pricey I know, but my motor is for keeps and every thing that I have replaced or upgraded in the last five years of ownership has been for the better.
For more info on Canems system just google Lloyd Development Specialists of Warminster. Or speak to them in person at the largest TVR Traders Day at the Neil Garner Open Day at SN16 9SH on Saturday September 27th.

Thanks Paul. Yes shunting. Mine will if made to do so but learnt to live with it by driving technique. Keep rpm above 2000 in higher gears, on off throttle etc. My griff is ok no issues. 170.3psi average on 8cylinders after 56k miles. I'm happy with that. Thanks again.Fed up with it! Hi Paul, the 14CUX is certainly not junk it is a very sophisticated ECU that has had the benefit of a substantial R&D budget unlike most aftermarket offerings. If the car is not running correctly then there must be a root cause. Mine is still running 14CUX and has always run very well. It did start to play up so I took it to Mark Adams who traced the issue with an ignition analyser down to the ignition coil which was not constantly outputting the correct voltage. Once the coil was replaced with a new Bosch unit it has been fine and as a bonus Mark mapped out all those little niggles those of us who have 5.0 litres cars have such a idle, cold start and low speed manners (shunting) have been resolved.Incidentally, on a different note, trust you will join us for the biggest TVR traders show at Neil Garner's as once again we will hold the Open Day event, only this time, it will be a season closer rather than a season opener as the date has been set for Saturday Sept 27th at SN16 9SH. No worries Matthew - I will have no need for it, hence looking to shift it on! Look forward to catching up with you in Sept when you will see the conversion! Birds nest wiring will go too! For a modern neater conversion!! Matt - I note you have brought the head rest camera attachment is the TVR conversion sound? Due to the single bar on the headrest is it strong enough for a 'proper' camera? Ie 35mm lookalike! Expensive I know, but don't mind paying if it is quality, I await your comments here or private email. - for yet another TVR Chateau Run!!!
Regards P
I spent a long time on Pauls car trying to eliminate the shunting- and yes I could do it by putting extra air over the hot wire element in the AFM at the exact shunting point- effectively making the ECU think there was more air than there was so it puts in more fuel- so next I tried lifting the AFM output electronically at low airflows, but the ECU just keeps re-trimming the mixture to lambda 1, and bring back the shunting. I suspect in this case you could possibly re chip the car just to run richer at 1700 rpm or so, but keep the mixture as was at idle, so the long term trim was not affected- but how many hours / gallons do you want to spend on this? Id think in Pauls case simply getting an ECU in there where you can program the mixture richer than lambda 1 at the shunting point will remove the issue.
BTW- last 3 ECUs bought at between 40 and 60.

Yes I am really pleased with the headrest mount. It is pricey but then it is a very sturdy and well designed piece of kit. I reckon it would be strong enough for a proper camera you can clamp it tightly onto the seat posts of the Griff, but I wouldn't like to say for sure. I can bring it down to the Garner day for you to try out if you like or it that too late in the year? Here is what it looks like fitted, excuse the cat.

If you do buy one then try using the discount code INTRO10 at the checkout. This is a 10% discount as an intro offer so not sure if it still works, it did when I purchased mine.Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
