500 Cylinder Head Cost ????

To satisfy some of the retards who I work with, who are now running a sweep as to the cause of my car's excessive oil consumption and exhaust smoke, does anyone have any idea how much a replacement head (RV8 5.0 litre)may be ?? As a cracked head is one of their options.

I think but do not quote me on this, but if the head is cracked you will most likely be using water, however to use exesive oil the valve guides may be worn and need replacing, i recently had my head`s done but went the whole hog and they cost me around £400.00 each, i would try a compression test and seek proffesional advice on where to go.

V8 Developments did my stage III heads at around £700 p-ex for pair. i thought this was pretty good.

may sort your problem and you get 30lb/ft torque extra...free!

As I understand it a 500 head is about the same as a stage 3 head so the above seems to be about right... www.v8developments.co.uk/parts.asp

Unless you know the exact spec of your heads you will probably be better ordering a pair from V8d. Then you can overhaul yours and sell them.

On the 16V golf I got away with just replacing the valve stem oil seals, these are only pence. I suppose if you are paying someone else to do a complete strip you may as well change the whole lot.

I seem to remember that you can buy shorter guides that help gas flow. I don't know if the 500 has these as standard, but it may be worth a look.
