reliability on new tvrs
Discussion
Im sure this has crossed many peoples minds and whether to get a new tvr or spend the money on a car more reliable. The new tuscan 11, I notice they are arounf 50k, i appreciate its just taste on which car you choose but what have tvr done to improve the reliability of the new 11 , I love the 350 and would get one tomorrow but how reliable are they.
I love my Chimeara but time will soon be coming to change. Again its taste but if your going to spend 40/50+K on a car why would nt you go for a porsche etc. Yes i know they are different and theres 1000 to every Tvr, but i just would not want to spend alot of money on a new car where it lets me down, any comments on the new tvrs reliability but be welcome,,cheers Paul

Had my Tuscan S from new for just over 2 years (oct 02)
.
Problems I have had so far....
Oil pressure sender faulty. So got a new one.
This leaked, so they refitted it. Fine since.
Throttle bodies have had to be re-bushed (I think).
That's it.
Total expense £0.00. (Above 2 points were warranty).
Although I have had it wax oiled twice now (£99 per time), but that was my choice.
Why get one instead of a Porsche?
Looks.
Performance.
Noise. (IMHO My standard Tusc S sounds better than my old Griffs. Very aggressive. Lovely).
(Unless you've got £500k ? Or was it £250k to buy that GT one).

Where do you get is wax oiled, I think I want some of that!
TMS Melton Mowbray.
They seem pretty good these days.
The new TVRs are very reliable as transport. I use mine every day for the commute. The issues on Tuscans from memory :-
Early cars the ignition fuse rated too low so blew
Earthing point contact can deteriorate to the point the car won't start
Otherwise it's niggles that are fixed at service time (btw the car can be away for 3 days every 6000 miles). For example :-
Speedo sensor shortage - doesn't stop you driving though
Door sensor switchs can break - have to manually open / close window
Oil pressure switch develops leak and/or starts reading too low

I think the focus of the concerns is on early cars where the build quality was "variable" and the fact that a majority engines built before say sometime in 2002 need to have the top end reworked which can mean between a 4 and 12 week period off the road.
But don't think people don't run these cars every day - they do.
Cheers,
Andy.
