Suddenly occured to me the other day, we've all got boring.

Big money is being asked for the new Tiv's, esp the Sag and Typhon. What are they though? Faster 350s basically. Not exactly the last word in looking kewl, menacing and with a supercharged s6 under the lid, inspiring either. Not for their "beast" cars at any rate.

There is also a semi revival in retro(ish) sports cars and the American muscle car market.

Can you see where this is going yet?

To cap it all, TVR have been out-muscled and out-beasted by bloody Vauxhall ffs ! Now being a Blackpool lad I take that as a personal insult.

So, we need an answer. And no Boosted I dont mean no pissant 5.7ltr thing. Vaux have that already.

TVR....go the Viper route.
Ring up Dodge, get hold of that engine, design a car round it. Keep your weight to 1100kg and make yourself a REAL beast of a car. 300mm 4 pots all round. 2 states of tune, 500 or 600horses, same with torque.
Now *that* you can charge £50k for. Whatsmore you'll flog so many of the buggers you wouldnt believe it.

Make it available as a targa or coupe. Streamline the coupe, take it record hunting, have one take a crack at 240mph somewhere.

Promote the thing at the Motorshow with blokes and birds in lifeguard attire. It would be totally sexual, animalistic and you can get the public making the connection between the thrill of the car with the potential to kill the unwary driver.

Oh and a factory backed assault on the Corvettes, Porsches, Vipers and 575GTC's at Le Mans.

That might be a problem, a I know the old V10 was a great big tractor engine, so wouldn't be the lightest of things.

The new one may have been designed specifically for the SRT-10 (or whatever the non-Viper name they have to use is!)

But in principal I like the idea though, although perhaps we should be looking for a crated V12

Lifegaurds. Baywatch. Blokes n birds looking good?
Saving lives.
On the one hand you get attractive sexy ppl trying to get you interested in the car. So far so good right? Now then, as they are lifegaurds you also emphasise that the car is a serious beast. Serious beast = sexy motor. In short...Drive This Car and You Might Need Us to Save Your Life.
It wasnt that subtle for God's sake!

Huh? IMNSHO, the Sagaris is the most extreme TVR ever, and you can't deny it polarises opinion, not at least within TVR aficionados.

Yes, and how is that less boring/more exciting?

Umm... 400 bhp in a 1,700 kg car, how is that 'outmuscling' or 'outbeasting' 400 bhp for 1,100 kgs of Tiv? (let alone the 590-odd horsies in the Typhon).

No, hardly anyone would buy it. Not when it comes off as badly as a Viper (apart from being crude, it;s hardly suited to British roads anyways).

I think the T350 was a major step in the right direction - simple beauty, compact, lithe and with a big stonkin' engine. All it needs (apart from QA issues) is the final polish to suspension and steering for it to be d*mn near perfect.

Exactly, it polarises opinion. It shouldnt. It should make every car nut in the world *need* to own one. It is the perfect chance to make an AC Cobra for the 21st C and whatsmore make it a King Cobra before the Yanks do.

Because it's loaded up with a 5.7ltr beast. It looks like it will eat a Sagaris for breakfast. The Sagaris and Typhoon are all a bit subtle, Why? Make the damn things look like the will bite your balls off!

It hasnt got a big stonking engine though, it has a Speed Six! Whatever the S6 might be it doesnt come in "big stonking" catagory.

And yes, at £50k, a 7ltr monster TVR would sell like no tomorrow. Whatsmore it would be the sort of car that would persuade ppl to part with extra cash that they werent planning on.

I think if TVR bought in a high performance engine their supplier would probably make more profit per car than TVR would. It's a very expensive component and no wonder TVR do their best to keep all the associated profits in house.

what does this mean?

"And no Boosted I dont mean no pissant 5.7ltr thing"?

pissant? thing? Gees! You're used to a tvr ffs not GM's finest.

Anyway, the viper engine is massive, weighs a lot and isn't going anywhere as far as evolution is concerned. The lsx is evolving all the time

If you want a car capable of out performing a viper then get a Marcos TSO, job done. It's quicker on the straight and on the bends. Good engine, tiff like looks, excellent chassis, 6 gears and big brakes. It's all there and it can be developed lots more if need be. If tvr change engines I bet they go for the chevy! I'm sure they're looking at it, in fact I think they were looking at it prior to it's launch

I've got to agree with Boosted. There's nothing in the current TVR stable that makes me want to get out of my Chimaera. But if the TSO was just given a little makeover......

For something that weighs barely more than a fag paper (and some would say is constructed much along the same lines ), a 3.6-4.2 litre straight six delivering anything between 350 and nigh on 600 bhp is big and stonking enough, thanksverymuch. What;s more, it's one of the most charismatic end responsive engines I've ever had the pleasure of hoofing down country lanes :-).

How many Vipers get sold on these shores? Not many. They may work well on drag stips, on wide open tracks and in the wide open spaces in the US of A, but not on British, greay, bumpy, sodden country lanes. Personally, I'm not too fond of a big lump 'o'iron in front that makes the car understeer like a pig on turn in, before sending me a**e-first into the nearest hedge when the big rollers at the back hit a bump or puddle.

Furthermore, it would be a charicature of the public image of TVRs: crude, hairy chested throwbacks clad in outrageously sculpted fibreglass. I think TVR has developed somewhat beyond that.

My perfect TVR would be one that features a more modern, stiff bonded aluminium construction like Lotus, Morgan Aero 8 or Aston (but without the unnecessary complication of the latter), has a racer-like purposefulness to its machanical layout and a sorted S6, all wrapped up with the same kind of groundbreaking interior and exterior design we've known from TVR for the past decade and a half.

You just dont get it do you?
That bloody charicature is what sells!!!

Big engine, big power, unruly, barely behaved beast, pornographic body.

TVR has developed beyond that...and sales have dropped off. Shocker that one. Ill tell you why, TVR has got boring, there is no longer the shock & awe effect.

Boosted, I meant that the 5.7ltr thing is already being done, why just copy it? You have gone nowhere, you have advanced nothing, in utterly childish speak, you have shown you are packing nothing bigger than the next guy. Where is the appeal in that? The feminists in many ways are absolutely right in this enviroment. It *is* about d1ck size, testosterone, alpha male, who can pish biggest up the wall etc. In which case the only route to go is bigger and harder.
TVR need a Speed 12 for the 21st C and this time stick to their balls. Esp if you are looking to flog them to the newly minted in Eastern Europe. The King Cobra being a fatal beast to drive only ever enhanced the rep. You cant buy that kind of PR and you cant beat it.

Ive finally worked out what it is I dont like about the Marcos....it looks like it was designed by a health & safety committee.
