Look what I've done to my pride and joy!!
Somehow I managed to stuff her into the central reservation on Boxing Day. The car went spinning out of control at 60mph in fifth gear on the motorway. The wishbone snapped, but not sure if that was on impact or before hand. I've had the car for 3 years and would consider myself as an experienced driver but have never experienced anything like it, back end was snake-biting all over the place.
I'm gutted!

The bit that's the most worrying though, is that they can be lost going in a straight line without unsettling the car.

Yes I had the backend out a few times that day, but then I was pushing quite hard.
However, when I was slowly making my way back home on the motorway (straight road) through a 50mph limit the backend just started to snake-bit without any warning or anything, managed to control first spin, but it just kept going out of control, ended up into the central reservation on 2 wheels, bonnet flew off. Eventually came to a stand still approx 200yards from first spin.
Very worrying!!

received your mail over the incident. Was it just after the 50 or going under the tunnel section at Colwyn Bay? I know I hate going under there in the Griff, it seems to hold water and with the conditions could there have been a bit of black ice? There again that whole section of the A55 holds moisture.
Really glad to see you're OK and hope Mrs Cotton isn't giving you too hard a time. Like you said maybe now's the time to look at that Tuscan

ps: the Griffs under the cover waiting for its new home to be built in the new year. With the amount of salt we have laid down here, that's where it's staying for a while.

Yes it was just after the tunnel, on the slight hill between the tunnel and the Rhos-on-Sea turning. You can still see the trail of 'imperial blue' on the crash barrier. I really don't know what happened, I was going that steady / slowly I was driving with just one hand.

Just binned my Tuscan S on the North Circular last night- my fault but its still a complete B**ST**D.
My fault,I am a newbie and I was accelerating from 30 and gave it too much.
Hope you are not feeling too sore,pleased you are OK and I am so so sorry about your car.

Sorry to hear about that and glad you are ok and walked away from it.
I know exactly how you feel.
I lost the back end of my Griffith Doing about 30 on a very shallow bend on some Ice. Put it through a 3 bar wooden Fence and stopped in a field after spinning 360 and going along the fence for a few mtrs before going through it.
It took me by complete surprise how quickly it went and I am still unsure completely why it went, Driver error/black ice... I think probably the combination of both although I cant remeber fully I wasnt accelerating as only going through a 30 and was due to stop in about 300 mtrs.

Likewise, sorry to here about your Tuscan S - is it a right off? It looks as though mine will be. Still shaken up by the whole thing, as I'm sure you are. I feel embrassed more than anything.
Anyway I'm hoping to get a Tuscan next.

Glad I'm not the only one. I wouldn't have minded if I had been really going for it, at least I would have learn't from it, but as it was there was no explanation for what happened.

I'd rather we didn't.. Narrowly avoided binning mine on Christmas Eve on my way down to Cornwall. Cold and frosty but clear stretch of the A30 just outside of Truro which was fine until I came over the brow of a hill at about 50 to find the road in the valley covered in snow. I lifted off but as soon as I hit it I started snaking over the road and ended up gently sliding backwards off the road into a ditch. If it weren't for the layby I'd have gone off the edge of the road albeit slowly. Certainly gave me a fright, no damage done luckily.. Glad I'd slowed down a little, saw some big looking clouds ahead that I was just wondering if they were full of snow..

To say I had no grip would be a massive understatement.

wasnt a right off but very close... Mostly only cosmetic damage too. Bodyparts From TVR direct are very expensive... There are Cheeaper suppliers of Bosyparts which Saved my Skin
Literally So sorry to hear about the Tuscan too
. Be a carefull out there Guys/Gals. This Time of Year and RWD Beasts dont mix very well...

Just thought I'd say 'ouch' and then say 'its not your driving, its the car, these cars are not meant for wet/icy roads, period.'....
but then that comes across too harsh, so I'd turn around and say 'at least you're fine, and thats the main thing, cars can be replaced, but not fellow pistonheaders'...
I wrote this a while back, I'll say it again, 'whenever its raining or too cold (meaning there could be ice)... she stays... and the daily takes me from A to B'.... please take this advise... I'm not preaching, but it dont matter how good your driving is, when you get caught, the road is either too wet/icy and too narrow to correct loss of traction...
I mean, even my 3000gt slides around a bend in the ice now and again, and shes twice as heavy and 4-wheel drive too!!!

I think tyres make a huge difference, I had Toyos on several cars including my Griff for years, great dry tyres, not so hot in the wet. My Tuscan came with Goodyear F1s wich are amazingly grippy in the worst conditions and I drive 25 miles over a mountain every day to get to work. What proper "winter" tyres are available for TVRS?
