Just a quick note to say Thanks once again to Corin and Rich for coming out to view a Chim with me today. Thanks for all your help and advice and for saving me spending 14k out on an accident damaged car, I now have a much better idea of what to look for and the search continues....
Cheers Guys
Tony

No, but upon leaving we did show Tony how to steer from the rear!

It's a real shame Tony, the car was very well presented and in a rare and stunning colour combo, to the eye a lovely Chimaera but things just didn't add up. Once I had found the seam where a complete new front end had been fused on it all became clear.

Couple this with the fact that the trader seemed very well informed about the details that suited him and pleaded ignorance to anything we found!

This was all topped off by us not being allowed to contact the previous owner, no paperwork or documentation whatsoever other than service stamps.

You did the right thing.

Good luck with your search

Oh, and thanks for the offer of some beer money for my troubles but I'm far happier walking away knowing that I've helped someone.

I wonder who done the repairs, obviously not very good if you can see the nose joins. Cant see the joins on mine and theres alot of pre cat Griffiths with 500 nose cones on without VNCL (visible nose cone lines).
Lets face it theres probable quite a few Griffiths?chimps with new Noses as it doesnt take much to Shatter the Grp in a small prang.
But what is important is that the repair job is a good one and the seller is completely Honest and open about what has happened and been done to repair it.
Thats where I think this seller has let you down and rightly you have walked away.

Good luck with the search.

That was exactly what Corin was worried about, the lack of info from the seller. A new front end would have been an expensive repair yet there was no receipts or paperwork to detail this, nor did it pick up on the HPI check the dealer had supposedly done. That along with him having an answer to everything just made the car seem too good to be true. He even stated at 1pm he realised we weren't going to buy the car (whilst we were still looking round) and had just phoned a guy in Wales who was by then on his way down with the cash to purchase - in the dark, having never seen the car before???
I feel very sad in a way to have walked as it was one of the nicest and rarest colour combos I've seen but I'd rather have a decent machine at the end of the day.
I will however, make sure that Corin is rewarded with beers should we meet again at a TVR meet in the future.

Thanks for the warning, but how does this sit with the naming and shaming?

Exaclty Simon, although your car has had a little ding, I for one would not hesitate in buying your Griff as it is better condition than most, with all the history and photos.
