Nice loose seatbelt

Folks, tell me. Is the seatbelt dead?

My drivers side seatbelt has stopped retracting. It does so only slowly, if at all, and I generally drive with it flapping in the breeze. I can reach back and wind it in OK, and then its better, but the retraction is still pretty weak.

I know all about the 'don't park on a slope thing' - that was the status quo before this little event.

Any suggestions?

Is your seat right back? Is the car damp inside? All of these things slow up the retraction rate. I have to feed mine back in but have got used to it. May replace belts when I retirm car later this year though.

I should have a new belt fitted pronto. Hate to see consequence of even a minor shunt if that belt is loose. Sorry to be like.

Is the inertia reel unit horizonal? Sometimes they twist round on the mounting bolt, so even though the car might be flat, the belt unit thinks it's on a hill.

Well Christopher Neil are going to have a look for me in the next two weeks.

She's getting an all-over body job because she was (very) gently shunted from behind, leaving a few marks and a crack you have to look carefully to see. Still, it will get rid of the stonechips and sh'e be even more beautiful.

Shame I'm going to have to sell her, really...
