I've just driven down from London and at a constant 80mph (3,000rpm) my oil pressure gauge reads 45psi which seems higher than the average Tiv, my old 4 litre always bobbed around the 20-30 mark?

Is this right do you think?

high 30s to low 40s on mine. doesn't sound far out, and so long as temp's ok wouldn't worry?
does it represent a change in behaviour for your car?

Hi - fancy seeing you two in here! Happy new year!

Mine stays near 45 all the time. Just a tad over when cold and just under when hot.

Depends on what you mean by 'average Tiv'. If you were in your 3000M, I'd say it was on the low side and you'd need some new shells. If it was a Rover V8 car, seems about right.

Yeah, ok, I know you mean your Chimaera, nobody would drive an M-series car at 80mph on a cold Sunday in January

Pre-serp engines are usually a bit lower than serp engines... differnt oil pump design etc.

corin, if thats the new car, it could be on new/better oil (ie mobil M/sport etc)

45 sounds great to me at 3000.

Engine cold:

Idle=45
2500 rpm=50

Engine (oil) hot:

Idle=25
Anything rpm above 1500=40

Mine is a 1993 pre serp with cat, oil used Castrol RS 10W60.
