Went to view a Chimaera today for which I have agreed a good price, however, I did notice a slight colour difference in some lights/angles between the passenger side rear wing and door. The car was HPI'd and clean and the owner states he's not had this area re-sprayed. What do you think? Is it a peculiarity of pearl paints or do you reckon its been done? First pic shows it looking fine whilst the second pic is a good example of what I mean. Could it be that the door is flat whereas the wing is curved?

Everything else was great, could do with some new brake discs and pads at some point (accounted for in agreed price) and the elec mirrors aren't working at present but overall very happy.

Hi, looks like a respray to me. From the two pictures the colour appears to be a match but the metal flake in the paint is lying in different directions, hence more light reflected (lighter) when viewed from certain angles. Have you tried posting on the Chimp forum for anyone with past info. It looks the same colour as one that was in a garage near Stanton in Suffolk a while back. That one had some damage around panels where some idiot had tried to gemmy it to break in, which could fit with your respray question. Does not look a particularly good paint job, irrespective.

I've agreed a price of £13k including the plate (P55 COT, currently reading P5 5COT). Everything else checked out fine, mechanically sound with all wishbones/outriggers etc recently wax-oiled and sound.
Due to pick it up next Sunday but will await confirm from Robs inspection. All panel gaps looked decent, the only slight gap being the passenger door window not quite meeting the roof seal by about 5mm, and the door having dropped slightly when opened. That and the colour diff is my only real niggling doubt.

Hi Tony, you say the car was HPI'd, was this when the vendor bought it? If so I would get a fresh check done.
To correct the paint you will need to have the whole side painted then laquered into each corner otherwise you will always get that effect, it is more likely to have been scratched and the repair paid for privately by the owner (one panel paid for to reduce costs), any serious damage would have resulted in an insurance claim and any bodyshop worth their salts would have painted the whole side.
The door (unless it's due to accident damage) is not a problem, Chimaeras are prone to door dropping, Austec can sort this for you easily, this might also sort the window roof gap? If not, to adjust the window height....
On the door halfway between the quarterlight post and the back edge of the door on the interior side about 12mm down from the top there is screw, by UNSCREWING it you should be able to raise the height of the window by up to 4mm!
It might also be worth checking the roof seals, if one is missing this would create a similar gap.
Mirrors, first thing to check is the connections to the back of the door switch, it may just be corrosion to the terminals but more often than not it's the switch, if it's the black Citroen switch - bank on not being able to get one, if it's the silver TVR switch you are looking at £80.

Not sure, I've booked an inspection via Rob Ingleby for Friday so will await the results. My gut feeling from the seller was fairly positive but I've just got a couple of niggling doubts that his service will hopefully clear up.
Will let you know the result....
