MOT - Any garage or TVR approved?
Discussion
My Chim is due an MOT, though its just had a 12k service at Fernhurst 3 months, and less than 1000 miles ago. However I don't really fancy communting to them again just for an MOT unless it is essential. Is an MOT of a Chim specialised enough to require a TVR garage, or will any MOT centre be able to do the job well? I want the job done properly and carelfully as its my P&J, but dont fancy the 3hr trip just for a MOT unless its required! If anywhere is fine, can you recommend a good MOT centre near Gosport, Hampshire. Many thanks.

For 2 of the last 3 years I have had the Chimeara done at a local garage. No problems at all. I did have to show one of them a couple of features and it was amusing watching the second one feel down the sills for corrosion before asking me if it was GRP (not done a TVR in 18 years !).
Emissions might be the only concern but it should pass OK at any garage

Just make sure they know it has an Lsd. which means they shouldnt test the rear brakes on the rollers...
Why not, what does it do? the bloke that does mine knows it's got a lsd because he was talking about it but I'm sure he tested the brakes on the rollers, might be wrong.
Got me worried now.

I'm always present for mine, cos they'll never figure out the buttons. If they say you can't be, tell them they'll take twice as long to figure things out... if ever. Things like headlamps might need adjusting which is something they would be clueless about in terms of accessing the rear of the lamps.
plus they have no need to take it on the road for an MOT

Thanks. Anyone know of a good MOT centre in gosport? New to the area so keen to find some good mechanics/garages. Also need a good body work touch up shop for the Golf, any suggestions?
I used Newgate Motor Services (01329 827979) before Christmas.
They were very friendly & helpful. Not in Gosport I know but not far away.

You seem to have the impression that mechanics are just a bunch of dim grease monkeys. It doesnt take a genius to work out which button does what. My local mechanic managed to change a bulb and adjust the headlights on my Griff without having a nervous breakdown. Give them some credit. Many modern every-day cars are far more complicated that TVR's.
