I drove through France, the Alps, and around Northern Italy including the Stelvio Pass.
Breifly touched Austria.

I need to update it at some point with the actual trip. It was bloody excellent, best holiday ever. Manged about 3600 miles in 3 weeks. Loads of 2/3 day stops too and fantaastic roads.

Can't help you with the pics but I just wanted to say go for it! I would love to return with my car and bike having ridden a stage race there one June in the early 90's. I was amazed then by the scenery (we were in the Alps the whole time), the quality of the roads and how peaceful it seemed. June would be a good time to go because the ice caps are still there (actually I don't know if they ever go 
) and you won't have hoardes of families in diesels.
Not a bad trip down either, straight through scenic southern Germany.

thanks for the replys, i have friends in austria so go there quite alot skiing///summer,,so any advice on any scenic routes getting there much appreciated,,,Thanks again!!! this has got to be a must-also did you encounter any car problems,,how did you prepare. These may be common sense issues but best to get advice from those that have done it!!
Alternator failed after 3000 miles and on the way home. Not due to trip though, it was just bad timing.
Also take some octane booster incase you have trouble finding a garage with 97+.
I dont think this is much of a problem now, even Italy sells 99.
Get breakdown cover (Brittania is very good) and pack essential tools. I also took a spare belt (serpentine engine), duck tape, bulb kit, and the useual bits in my tool box. Didn't use any of it though, oh, apart from a bulb which I noticed was out when I got on the ferry on the way there! (first time I have ever opened a spare bulb kit!).
I also removed my front plate for the mountain passes for better cooling. Probably not a problem for you though.
Oh yeah, also some oil and water for the car. If it drinks lots then ready mixed coolant.
