ahh! EVO 6. Griffith, or Chimera?

Seriously, it's a difficult decision to make. We've got a modified Scoob (300ish bhp + handing mods) and a standard(ish) Griff 500 (That Mr. Banana still hasn't featured on his site
) between myself and the better half.
Both are very competent cars at what they do, but there's no way the Griffith will keep up with the Impreza on bumpy B roads. It's a different story on the A roads.
Do you want to simply go fast, in which case the Evo (plus a trip to Simon Norris?) won't easily be beaten, or do you want something that is quick enough as standard with a bit more style that won't look out of date in a couple of years?
I much prefer the Griff to the Impreza - it's more fun and involving.
And still good as a daily driver.

Buy the Evo The Evo and the Griffith/Chimaera are not in the same market and have absolutely nothing in common.
IMHO it sounds like you've got £15k and want something fast to keep up with your brother.
You should buy a TVR because you love how it looks and how it sounds. NOT because you want to go fast.
So buy something with 4WD and plenty of airbags, you will both be in a ditch within the first year if you are thinking like this.

That's spot on IMO. The best scenario, of course, is to be able to own and run both - if two types of car ever were 100% complimentary to each other, they're an Evonutter STI Spec XYZ special and a Griffmaera...
We were fortuate enough to have a Prodrive modded Impreza Turbo and a Griff 500 at the same time.
The Impreza was the fastest everyday, all weather condition car by a long way, however it could be driven quickly by your grandmother, it didn't feel special. However the TVR was always an event, something to put a smile on your face.

Hmm, well, you got your car line up wrong for a start.
If you cant drive or lack taste then buy an Evo thingy.
If you can drive and have some taste then you need to re-adjust your thoughts.
Now, first, is this a £15k is what I can most afford? or £15k is roughly where Im looking at? Vital question, answer 1 means ok, anything upto £15k, answer 2 means you can afford £20k.
However, lets be generous and decide that you can drive, know how to HnT and have some taste.

You can get every single one of those for upto £15k.
The question about whether you can go more than £15k really is because then you could look at a 930 (911 Turbo).
I did this whole exercise the last 1/4 of last yr. My shortlist came down to a Z3M, 911 (964 type) and a Griff. I dont regret the Griff for a moment.

My pal sold his problematic 5l Chim and bought an Evo, he loved it till I took him out in my boring old S3, when he heard the crackle of the exaust and the drive by the seat of your pants jobby, all he did was sigh and say can we go out in this again when we next have a pint ? "I do miss my TVR"

It does make me laugh how people think because they have a rear drive car with lots of power and no driving aids they are a good and macho driver able to handle power and "tame beasts of cars"...
Most drivers of these cars are far from it
If you're a good driver then you'll get the most out of any car - Evo or TVR
Nothing to do with that lad. Ive been brought up running Sprites, Midgets, Mx's and MG's. none of which are/were highly powerful. All of which however, only had 2 seats, no roof, bugger all in the way of driver aids. Nothing macho about it, just well styled, simple cars that give a driver the most interaction.
Ill give you a single point which illustrates the vast gulf you dont comprehend....steering wheel feedback.
Im not a macho driver, I dont track cars, I dont highly modify them, I dont compete in traffic light GP's. Im just old school, I drive a motor car to engage with it and enjoy the processes of driving. The more electronic devices take away or make redundant those processes, the less there is for me to enjoy and ultimately lessens my satisfaction.
As for the taste angle. Well when the day comes that a 3 box design saloon can ever look as good as a purpose designed roadster or coupe, ill eat my hat
