TVR or Porsche ?

Bit of a dilemma, never known anything other than Porsche, but they seem to be losing appeal daily, a word that springs to mind is Common as muck !
Thing is need some guidance on what to buy next. Only looking to buy new, TVR's seem very fashionable lately...
Keep seeing a very attractive female on the roads around in different TVR'S, the more i look the more I think it's the car to have, even better if the chic was thrown in. But I'll start with the car for now..
Any ideas or models would be greatly received and places to source...

but you'll have to wait, but you should be used to that with porsche
(not sure if the typhons will be built)

Would you believe I actually own a Porsche (Boxster S) and a TVR (Chimaera 450).
If you haven't had a TVR before you should go and look at some in a dealership very, very carefully.
You should also Test Drive some and be very analytical about it.
This should help you work out if a TVR is for you. They can be very raw, brutal cars with little sophistication. This is made up for with bags of character, stunning looks, a fabulous sound and and and...
They are brilliant and the Tuscan 2 Convertible would be my choice - its a gorgeous looker, unlike some of the new TVRs (oooh contentious!) - but you should be very, very sure you are happy with how the cars are built and the way the interior is put together before purchase.
You're either going to love it - or loathe it - and better to find out before you spend the money.
Its also important to consider support. Do you have a dealer nearby you can service and fix the car with? TVRs need constant fettling when young and if its a hundred mile round trip to the dealer that's a problem. If you love in the sunny South East this isn't a problem - virtually every other town seems to have a specialist!

T350c had mine about 2 months now & its my first TVR.
It never fails to put a BIG GRIN on my face when im
it as well as most people that I pass.
Dispite the fact that yes it has had a few very minor niggels, "but they all do that sir".
Plus theres the bonus of exclucivity the only other one I've seen on the road is when im within a couple of miles of a dealer.

Ok, think my fate might be sealed. After first posting this thread decided to get the ball rolling and nip out for the latest edition of Top Marques, only to pass my dreamboat girl pulling out the car park, how bizarre...
Anyway, as my current model is a GT3 obviously looking at the higher end of the TVR market and will definately start organising some test drives.
I live in a place called Saltaire, not far from Bradford, West Yorks. Any recommendations where to go, thinking Manchester may be the nearest...

I have a 500 chimaera, and when some numpty hit me 3 months ago, I had a boxster for 2 months.
They don;t sound like either of the models that you have in mind, so this may well be duff comments but I thought I'd let you know my thoughts anyway.
My summer-purchased chimaera seemed to be thrown together by inspired chimps. The car was beautiful, and there was pinking and some average acceleration/hot start/other problems including leaks etc etc.
The V8 noise/grunt/smile/fear was a wonderful part of owning a trev.
However I had to read as much as I could to find out what I was entering into before buying, and found very helpful people on PH.
BUT owning a trev became an interest and occupation, where I needed to be aware of what needed fixing and what to beware of, rather than simply a point and shoot, off the shelf car.
So I spent 3k mechanically modifying the car so all facets worked efficiently together rather than being told by a tuner;
'I wouldn't push that on a track if I were you mate'.
After; [mark adams chip, new bits, remapping et al] the car was fantastic. The car pulled like a train, was dry and worked reliably. BUT ONLY AFTER THE RESEARCH AND THE WORK.
I have heard from these pages that straight sixes have [had] their problems, and may well need similar remedial work.
TVR, as I have been told by a dealer, use their customers as a piece of action research whereby they modify their production problems and lack of R&D £££ buy way of feedback, thereby developing their subsequent models.
By this rule of thumb, the tuscan 2 or later models would be a better bet.
The week after modifying my car I was hit and after sharp negotiations I had a porker as a comp car while mine was being repaired.
Point and shoot car. Heated seats and a lid that came down by pushing a button!
It was nice to have a porsche keyring and the familiar profile outside - but put in key and go.
That's it; no thrills, v predictable, turn the key and unlra reliable.
The breakaway was more progressive and predictable and it was a relief not having the trev in the cold, leaf-ridden mornings, when I could have scared myself witless.
Go trev for the thrill, and 911 for predictability. Go both.
However, I'm running my trev as an everyday car so an willing to take a risk - it's a bloody joy [plus I have not been left wholly high and dry].
Unsure I'd trust a new or new model TVR car - but no doubt we just hear from a skewed sample on PH, maybe some new owners are hugely happy...

Meakers; buy a Cerbera 4.5, get a few tweaks done to it with the change - and then invest in some driver training + perhaps a second car to go with it using the change from that lot.
Simple stuff: Suspension/brakes/chip - shouldnt cost more than £4k using the best stuff out there from any reasonable independant (e.g. Joospeed/Austec etc etc)
That should leave you with a car that may not be too far off the handling of the porsche, yet a fair bit quicker and cheaper.
Not sure what GT3 you have, but assuming its worth £50k, you should be able to get a gorgeous late Cerb and still have enough cash to buy something more dull to drive when its a bit icey/ pile miles onto; like a Smart City Coupe
I think any pre-Cerbera TVR (Chims/Griffs) will leave you underwhelmed in outright pace terms. If you can handle the constant engine worries - the Tamora/T350 are said to handle superbly out of the box, whilst not being any slower than your GT3 in a straight line.
Simple stuff: Suspension/brakes/chip - shouldnt cost more than £4k using the best stuff out there from any reasonable independant (e.g. Joospeed/Austec etc etc)
That should leave you with a car that may not be too far off the handling of the porsche, yet a fair bit quicker and cheaper.

So not content with with possibly upsetting most porka drivers you'll do the same with 80% of the Tiv drivers too if ypu carry on like that . Seen many a cerb seriously lacking in outright pace too
. Outright performance as you say is always available with the Speed6 cars, for those with deep pockets and a direct line to their lucky saint though. Harry
